Hey I'm a newbie and only new purchaser of the PS3 stock,
I just started off searching on google for backing up games and found this forum

I'm amazed at all the way use are a bunch of programers know the ins and outs of this machine,?? I can't understand any of it but I'm good with ideas lol so ill contribute that way,

You could almost if you put all your heads together maybe in the future make your own console, you seem to know all the programming stuff

design a circuit board , and walla some sort of open source HAX box machine almost like a linux for the internet create some sort of open source console? PS3, Xbox box that plays all games,

call it the HAX box lol

You might even get all the big games companies jump on board or something? create the most awsome game system out there

But hey i'm an idea's man lol

I can see that big (HAX) open source console logo on a kewl looking console lol the first open source console machine lol

It would be considerably cheaper to build a high-end gaming PC than it would be to build something identical to a PS3 from scratch...let alone something that supports games from every platform. PCs are already open...Windows isn't open source, but it is still a whole lot more open than a jailbroken PS3 or a JTAG'd 360.

It would be neat if someone were to make a PCI express card with a CELL on it to enable PS3 emulation on a PC...but I doubt the volume would be high enough to make it worth while.

you just pantent the box and people just have to buy the box and the game companies will fall to there kness to have to license there game to your open source box,

which means they will drop the price of the games to like $5 dollars a game

It would almost be like an iphone (the box) and top games cheaper (on some sort of itunes games console servers) , not sure how you would convince the big game companies, but you would have enough people making free games for the console to keep both parties happy .

be livin the dream the hax box lol

or of course just sell the box just keep games free on there forever,

Open source console you guys should work on it, ud make a fortune

Yer if thats easier use should work on it, make it small though like a PS3 maybe even smaller than a PS3, and make it linux based for net connection

lol , , not smoking anything , Just seen the talent in here... You have sony headquarters right here from what I'm seeing lol.

create a circuitboard together, then the box, maybe get a few 3D artists game devolpers from uni on board,

A few ways you could go about it, the thing being seems you have the means and the brains in the forum to create your own console

once you have created the circuit board , and the general layout find china manufacturers to mass produce but since you will definatly get orders you could do the first order off pre orders of the open source console.

You simply just advertise it on the paper, first open source console

Plays all PS333, XBoXXXX, games just add the 333's and the x's lol

@helpwithstuff do you realize how much this would actually cost... Also, I can guarantee no development companies would develop/port games to a console that is open source that played free games. How would they make their money?

Cool idea, not going to happen though.

There would be no way any one could release a console like that. MS and Sony would never sign off on letting another company make a console that runs their games.

Thats what I'm saying they don't have to sign off on it, there would be nothing illegal in creating a console that plays all games,

there would be nothing they could do about it if you guys could make it,

when I said the companies come on board I meant they would eventually have to , because you have made this box

The overall concept is to create a standalone box that plays ps3 and xbox games , you just have a kewl looking box, from a legal perspective its just a box that happens to play all console games nothing illiegal about that

you make it you hit the jackpot

as far as develoopment I was thinking combine all the things you know

create a box with all these dongle things attactched and a user interface to simply choose which firmware for games, have it all attached in one hax interface switching between ps3 interface and xbox interface.

Poor all your knowledge into one console, if you have the freedem you can simply attach mod chips dongles everywhere create this open source box
