^ this is a good question i asked it too and if the update process goes on what is if we can change the firmware before it goes on ? -> update firmware -> cancel update -> change the firmware who where downloaded or checked before to (3.55) maybe with ftp ? and let the update process go on maybe we can trick the ps :D just a think of me i don´t understand the security of the ps...

why do you think it says
DO NOT TURN OFF THE PS3 WHILE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS....

because it bricks or you're forced to update to 4.0

if this even was possible don't you think we would know it by now

nah i am asking in general its like highly possible thing like power would go down in the middle and taht would make PS3 a hella crappy console if it bricks that way

It don't work cus it would just reset the original 3.73 to factory 3.73.
