HDMI Audio Woes

Hey, at my wits end with this so hopefully someone can help me!

Just bought a tv off ebay, it has hdmi, however i cant get sound to come through hdmi at all, either via my laptop or my ps3. So i know this isnt totally ps3 related but most of the errors come from the PS3.

When selecting the audio output on the ps3 and going through to automatic the ps3 displays "this HDMI device does not support audio"

when trying to use my pc the audio playback box just shows the hdmi cable as not plugged in.

I have been told that it has had sound played through hdmi previously.

I have tried:
going through manual audio settings on the ps3 only selecting lcm
Reinstalling audio drivers
A brand new hdmi cable
Messing with the tv settings, i cant find any way to change audio input.

Something interesting is that when on the hdmi source, the channel shows as dvi sometimes. The cable is definitely a hdmi cable but i am aware that audio cannot travel through hdmi.

Any help is appreciated!

Plug the normal scart into the PS3 and then set the sound on the PS3 to the scart thingy then change the settings on the T.V for sound to come from scart input not HDMI.

try in another tv if you have one
in ps3 sound settings turn on multi output too
try another hdmi source on your tv to rule out the ps3 as the cause
depending on the make of tv you can access service menus, my samsung refused to see a scart channel until i enabled it

Have you tried downloading the user manual online? Or going to the manufacturer's website? There may be issues with the TV, especially if it wasn't new.
