I like the neuronal picture and conceptualized universe image. I saw that image comparison a while back but never had the chance to read the article. I too have speculated on the possibility of our galaxy and existence being unified under one giant organism. I mean compare how planets orbit the sun and how electrons orbit the nucleus of an atom. Look at how the sun is composed of various subelements (Hydrogen, Helium ect.) and how the atom is made of various subparticles (quarks, leptons ect.). On a more gross scale, look at how many organisms the human body houses, it estimated that our skin (approximately 2square yards) serves as a habitat for as many bacteria as there are people in the United States, we have bugs living in our eyelashes, in our skin, we ourselves are just as much of an ecosystem as the world around us.

It is amazing that our knowledge of the galaxy and as far down as the subatomic dimension are all collective knowledge based off of our perception of manipulated light. I mean everything we see is just reflected light. Our brains are designed to perceive this light but there are so many other stimuli around us (magnetic waves, undetermined frequencies ect.) that are completely out of our physical perception. We keep finding ways to manipulate light to observe everything on a micro and macro scale. This gets me thinking what kind of stuff exists in all that dark in the galaxy? Also, if we are the quantum level of this earth, then will killing one subparticle (human) result in the spontaneous death in another like that observed in the quantum dimension of atoms?

Sorry I can talk on and on about this stuff...but the bottom line in my opinion is that if space is supposedly never ending and therefore infinite, then statistically the probability of anything occurring within its dictated laws is infinite. If the universal law allowed for the existence of life as we know it, I'm sure there is life in many of the hundreds of billions of galaxies that are apart of the universe as we know it (from our perception of manipulated light mind you). Certainly we are not the only intelligent life and surely we are not the most intelligent nor the least.
