Hey guys, I`m looking to hack my ps3 just to be able to download and play games of an external hard drive. After much digging I found this site and have been lurking here for quite some bit. I just don`t really know what I need or what I`m looking for to do what I want to do.

I have the first gen ps3 (I believe?), which has four USB ports, it IS backwards compatible with ps2 games, and its an 80GB. I am computer literate so I can do things that may be a bit to complex for average people. I believe the firmware on it is the latest version, so from my understanding I need a hardware flasher to bring it down or what for someone to jb it.

Now, before I jailbreak it what do I need? Which firmware would support best for my need, all I want is to play or have access to as many ps3 games as possible.

Also, if ps3 doesnt have a large market for downloading and playing games, would it be worth it to buy a xbox and mod it? But I just do love ps3 games.

You have access to every ps3 game already, it's called purchasing them via retail outlets. I wouldn't expect any user here to give you a tutorial on piracy.

Piracy is illegal yes, but so is everything that is done on this website. What difference would it mean if a user gave me a link to a tutorial on hacking a ps3 for reasons other than piracy?

I plan on buying ps3 games if there good after I play them, just as I do on the computer. Look at my steam list. I buy games and don't have any hours logged since Ive played the game out when I torrented it.

Then look around the forums for peoples views on which hardware flasher is best. I don't have one so I cannot really say, but Progskeet seems more reliable

EDIT Personally if I were you and have the money, I would get an XBOX

Hacking like what is discussed on this site is not and has never been illegal in the United States. It only becomes illegal when you do it for someone else and not for your own use. I believe this is covered somewhere under consumer laws.

Give him a break guys. He has not broken the rules.

He has not asked for where to download games or given links to them. Yes, he could have kept it quiet what he may be going to do but a polite warning would have sufficed

Sounds to me like someone just wanting to download the **** out of PS3 games, nothing more, nothing less. You cant blame me for having this perception on your intentions based on what you said it your previous post, but what do I know, eh...

Nobody has been disrespectful to him in anyway. All some of us have done is state that we refuse to help him due to the intentions he stated. If I was being impolite I would have simply responded to him with something like "F*ck off". However, I, nor anyone else has.
