The only mobo the cb is an issue is the jasper and it has nothing to do with the fw(dashboard) if it did you woupl not have to dump the nand to find out if the cb is the right one or not.
as for the elite it depends on the mobo in it, as far as i know the elites have used every mobo after the xenon, if u get one with a jasper you will have to dump the nand to find out if u can rgh it or not

Are you saying the one in the store was made in August 2010? If you are then get that one. If it is brand new from August 2010 then that is probably the best one to get since the dash has not been updated to one that will reflash the drive and then lock the drive, which in turn takes harder methods to flash the drive. Which flashing the drive in a RGH 360 is not very important you just have to create the backup a little different to get the games to play from disk.

I have a rgh Jasper (4/2010) with no dvd driver, and the southbridge is partially destroyed. The dvd drive is not necessary at all...I can play all games without one

Find the sticker on the 360 that has the serial number on it there will also be a manufacture date on that same sticker. The date as stated by pbanj needs to be before August 2011.

Just to make sure and I am no sure you verified it using that already, but due to refurbs the MFG date does not really matter. If you already have a way to dump the nand do that before you buy a RGH chip because not all Jaspers can be glitched. You are looking for a jasper with a CB of 6750 or 6751 and not a 6752.
