So it's been a few years since I did anything related to PSX hacking. Now I just got my ps3 today (12/20/2011) and it's the latest model with 3.66 stock, 3.65 min version.

Now from what I understand, even though there are tutorials for 3.73 - 3.55 downgrade via progskeet/E3/whatever, none of those apply to my console because it's lowest firmware is 3.65 (don't shoot i'm trying).

Is this correct or can something like progskeet/whatever allow me to downgrade to a lower firmware.

Also, since i bought this today i can take it back, since I do want to JB, should I wait for KaKaRoTo's JB and hope there is a backup manager for it eventually as I know he said they won't work (time can change things... hopefully also not gonna lie, that's my main reason for JBing) or am I better off trying to find a used PS3 that has the proper firmware?

I would take it back & look for a ps3 on 355 or less .You can always get a new ps3 anytime. If you wanna Jailbreak you cant downgrade past the stock firmware .Also if you have the new model you are really SOL .Do yourself a favor & start searching .I would !

if i was you i would take it back. and try to get one on a lower fw on craiglist or ebay. since who knows when kakaroto will release his jb, which will probobly require another dev to add peek&poke functionality for back ups. and i don´t think you can use progskeet or e3 to downgrade on new consoles, but any1 correct me if im wrong

That is all i can tell you bud .Try & find one used & save some money . You may find one there still around. You just have to look ..

check for a CECH-2504B date code 0c or below they can be downgraded
datecode 1a sometimes 1b not

Not only that you want a ps3 that can get down to 355 since we already have tons of supported home brew & games ,back up managers & modding games & so on ..What ever floats your boat .355 has more than allot of others dont see & cry about a new CFW. Most who have a 355 are happy ... Until if the day comes we can get a new CFW ??? Who knows when ,lol I personally could not wait for that day, as i love my CFW 355s & i cant be without the open system as much as it is today !

wow i go away to watch a how-to for the e3 and i come back to a ton of replies thanks

So i've decided to take it back (it was a good buy Uncharted 3 + console (320gb) + uncharted 1&2 + $50 BB gift card) and call around local gamestops and see if I can find a used one with the proper codes. If not ah well, but hopefully I can.

BTW the console is a CECH-3001B with stock firmware 3.66 so if anyone happens to buy the samething and has this question they can be pointed to this thread.

Also, if I do find a console that can go back to 3.55 but has been update to 3.73+ do I need something like the E3 flasher in order to downgrade it?

Yes you will but from what I have heard/read Progskeet is much better.

even 4.0 is downgradable as long the console supports 3.55
