Post SOPA Blackout Result

As many of you all know today was a black out day for many popular websites in protest to the SOPA bill. Here is a snip-it of an interesting article if you've been following the story:

"When the powerful world of old media mobilized to win passage of an online antipiracy bill, it marshaled the reliable giants of K Street — the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Recording Industry Association of America and, of course, the motion picture lobby, with its new chairman, former Senator Christopher J. Dodd, the Connecticut Democrat and an insider’s insider.

Yet on Wednesday this formidable old guard was forced to make way for the new as Web powerhouses backed by Internet activists rallied opposition to the legislation through Internet blackouts and cascading criticism, sending an unmistakable message to lawmakers grappling with new media issues: Don’t mess with the Internet.

As a result, the legislative battle over two once-obscure bills to combat the piracy of American movies, music, books and writing on the World Wide Web may prove to be a turning point for the way business is done in Washington. It represented a moment when the new economy rose up against the old.

“I think it is an important moment in the Capitol,” said Representative Zoe Lofgren, Democrat of California and an important opponent of the legislation. “Too often, legislation is about competing business interests. This is way beyond that. This is individual citizens rising up.”

It appeared by Wednesday evening that Congress would follow Bank of America, Netflix and Verizon as the latest institution to change course in the face of a netizen revolt."

Here is the full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/19/te...urse.html?_r=1

These are defining times for the internet. What is done with this bill could determine the fate of our laws and copyright enforcement for years to come. I know this topics been talked to death so I won't ramble on and on but I can't help but wonder if the internet is censored who will tell them what to censor? The whole who will police the police situation... I'm thinking the "censored-ship people" will not have the public's best interests at heart, but rather the needs of big money hungry corporations.

@jdtamimi you are all slaves, you need to work to pay bills, that's slavery,
i see a time where you need decent hacking skills to even browse the web,
the corporations with the most power and money will always win, to many ppl are corrupt or greedy, that's how the world is going to end.

There is a conspiracy about how every citizen is a slave. How? If you give a stock broker agent your birth certificate number. He/she will put it in their system and our files will pop up. We are slaves to our government.

First I hear of advancements in the medical field being butchered because of religious groups/people and now the internet is threatened to be in some form of censorship.....
This is bull why can't the government just leave tech alone and then they will realize by letting tech be tech the economy is surely to get better if not by much then by a little.
We would all be so much more advanced if government wasn't always so considerate about issues from people about big things for example stem cell research (this really pissed me off when I heard about it). And for the people who come up with these stupid bills, I swear if there was any chance of ever meeting in a dark alleyway....you get the picture.

No, its in the USA only but it doesn't stop other countries following USA and passing these laws.
