did some reasearch and everything seems pretty easy. have a couple questions. so if i go to walmart im sure i wont have a ps3 with 3.55 firmware.
would i be able to downgrade and do this? whats a good tutorial from start to end? What is jailbreaking compared to cfw? do i need to jailbreak first

Answer to Q1: No, if the system comes with firmware exceeding 3.55 stock, then you cannot downgrade.

Answer to Q2: Depends on the hardware flasher, but based on answer 1, this info is basically useless.

Answer to Q3: Jailbreaking is a term used erroneously in order to imply enabling a homebrew enabled environment on the system. Installing custom/modified firmware is more or less equal to "jailbreaking".

Yep, I'd guarantee it, but I'm not big on doing that... Feel free to check out the ones they have, but check the model number on the box before making any decisions.

Use that link to find out what firmware versions come with what PS3 serials, and make your purchase accordingly.

A more likely option is to buy a used fat ps3, which can all be downgraded, or buy a slim which is listed on that link that came with 3.50 or lower firmware.

Edit: If buying used from a game store, tell them you want to see the serial on the back of the system before your purchase. That way, no need for returns, you can just say no thanks. =)

Scam... Geohot hasn't been involved in PS3 hacking since 3.55, what with that whole court "battle" that ended with him working for Facebook. You need 3.55. After having watched the video, notice that the vid is ONLY for 3.55, and nothing BUT 3.55. The title, the header and footer, etc all say 4.00 but the vid is for 3.55 only. Basically, get 3.55, or don't get a hacked PS3.

Uh, yeah, that was basically the whole of my statement: No CFW since 3.55, no Geohot since 3.55, and implying 3.55 OFW as there has been no other FW besides OFW since 3.55. Lol.
