When I installed my Cobra CFW for the first time I installed 3.55 OFW first, then Cobra CFW and it worked flawless as I was told to do.

Did you go straight from kmeaw to Cobra CFW 3.55? If you did I think there are some problems when going that route and it's not recommended but that still wouldn't put you on 3.60 OFW.

What does this mean: that if I were somehow able to downgrade my 3.60 to 3.55 I would not be able to use my Cobra USB?

I was not, initially, interested in downgrading at all, I simply wanted to install Cobra 3.55 over Kmeaw 3.55, which I wouldn't think would count as downgrading.

(I'm not at trying to be rude or confrontational, by the way, I generally don't understand the reference to downgrading)

I did not install OFW first, which I suppose was a bad idea, but, as you stated, I don't see how my absence of that step could result in 3.60.

As a Cobra user, how do you like the dongle/CFW?

...I never got around to using mine.

On a related note, will I be able to use it/have any need to use it, if a 4.0 CFW is developed?

Try installing 3.55 OFW. It could just be a spoof included with Cobra CFW.

That is one of the things I have been trying to determine: whether or not hardware modding is worthwhile on the PS3.

Note to McLovin. I just found your review of the Cobra USB. Thanks for the in-depth review.

Wait wait wait. You said you are (supposedly) on 3.60 OFW, and you went into Service mode and tried to install the Cobra CFW?
There's something wrong. Just entering service mode on 3.56+ OFW is basically a brick since you can't get out of it. And it should have compeltely bricked when you tried to install the 3.55 MFW with it.

EDIT : Wait, I read again, and what failed isn't the downgrade from 3.60 with Service mode, but going in Service mode itself?
If that's so, you're very lucky. When you boot the PS3 do you get a red box saying "Factory/Service mode"?
Did you have a disc in the drive while trying to install 3.55 Cobra CFW?

Cheers dude, I feel for you. I think one tiny thing is possibly preventing you from using the dongle you've purchased and from what you're telling us is that it was completely accidental.

My review is a bit outdated though as this was when they just added PS2 support and didn't even have PSP support, mmCM support etc so if my review gave it a 9/10, you can give it a 10/10 now, amazing product.

Hope you get it sorted man, just get a hardware flasher if there's no alternative. One of my PS3s is in your position too, it's a CECHA01 on 3.60 sitting in the closet but I already have another one and a PAL 60gb that I use my Cobra on but I'd like to have a back up CECHA01 just in case so I may just buy a hardware flasher if there's no real development in the next 3 months.

Peace man, all the best.

@mclovin '

How is the PSP support? I read about that on the Cobra site and thought it seemed like an interesting idea, but I wondered whether of not it worked very well. Some PSP titles would certainly better on a larger screen.

i heard that if you have a game that has a higher firmware update in the drive it will install that update instead of the one in your USB stick.

Yeah, I figured that is what must have happened. When I realized, some time later, that I had accidentally left a disc in the PS3, I though that might have the cause of my troubles. It was stupid mistake on my part, and I should have given the matter some consideration (an "Act in haste, repent at leisure" situation to be sure).

Do you know if the problem exist for all updates, or just those in recovery mode? I can't recall reading anywhere "DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PS3 WITH A DISC IN THE DRIVE!" but I may have overlooked it.
