if you going to put the games on internal drive and movies then put the external drive at ntfs formate , what i normal do is split the exntal hdd in to 2 partions fat32 and ntfs , eg 500 gb harddrive i make 460 gb fat 32 and 40 gb at ntfs and use the ntfs just part to transver larger gamesor movies to the internal ps3 drive and use the fat for games etc that can run on external. you could try riping your movies to make them small on the pc ,.

i have a 500GB external hard drive , basically at the moment its formatted to NTFS and empty.
I was wanting to plug it into my PC USB and transfer a fair few MKV movies over from my main PC hard drive then plug the external hard drive into my PS3 USB socket so i can watch on my PS3 without converting them all. there's only a few games i play so i FTP them to the internal PS3 60GB hard drive so its mainly movies. I have tried streaming numerous ways but i get all kinds of problem from freezing to lip sync . if i formatt the external USB hard drive to NTFS multiman doesnt see it and if i formatt to FAT32 the files are too big to transfer over. i did have a go at this a few days back but kinda got lost and didn't know were to ask for help .
the bits i don't understand are ;- "Step 4. Open USB.CFG file with a text editor (notepad), this file can be found in the multiMAN archive you downloaded." ;- were is the USB.CFG " multiman archive" ? "Step 6. Save the file and place it to the root of your FAT32 USB device. (Not on a NTFS partition!)" ;-Does this mean i need to split the hard drive and partition into FAT32 and NTFS ? if so how do i do this ? . |

That file is provided with a FULL or BASE release of multiMAN, check here to get it. Dont mind step 6, just copy the edited USB.CFG to /dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/ through multiMANs file manager or through FTP

right i followed all the instructions , FTP'ed the edited USB.CFG to the correct folder. i then connected my ex, hard drive to my PS3.
i then scrolled to the "PFS Driver" , there is a green spot on the "PFS Driver" icon . does this mean its detected the HD . anyway , i then clicked on it , i get the wait message and then it takes me back to multiman main scrren. at this point i can scroll back and forth but if i click on anything nothing happens. there is a a scrolling circle top right corner and a flashing PS2 controller icon. any idea's ?. |

If you added your NTFS USB data correctly on the USB.CFG all should be well now, after switching to the NTFS drive through PFS Driver option you can now use multiMANs File Manager and access your NTFS drive through the to pvd_usb00X folder and load your +4GB .mkv that way, simply select a file and press
and multiMAN will cache the file (copy the file to the internal HDD) and play it through Showtime.here's a pic and another EDIT: make sure you didnt changed the extension of the file after editing it - to USB.CFG.txt for example - it as to stay as USB.CFG Last edited by kgb_; 01-24-2012 at 09:57 AM. |
