Hello everyone
Ok so here I go,

I have a PS3 slim 320gb which I bought almost a year ago.
The pre-installed firmware on the PS3 was 3.41

As 3.41 was hackable, I got a Jailbreak dongle from this website:

So In order to run homebrew I just had to insert the dongle, tap the eject button immediately after tapping the power button.

After getting the dongle to work, I downloaded various backup managers.
Gaia manager worked very well for me.

I transferred games directly to my internal HDD from my PC using blackbox and filezilla.

I downloaded a ton of games, all of them worked (Uncharted 2, GOW3, GTA4, Batman: AA, Little Big Planet etc.)

But as time passed bye more and more games became incompatible. (Assasins creed 2, Medal of honor, Hot pursuit)

While running, the games just crashed or returned to the XMB.

So I checked the dongle's website for any updates that could fix this.

Here's a preview of the Jailbreak programming tool I got off the website and the various hex files it offered for patching the USB stick.

[EDIT: I forgot to mention the hex file currently patched in mt USB dongle is Kakaroto PL3 of PSGroove for 3.41]






My query is, what should I do here now?

Patch a suitable hex file and try running the games?

OR

Install a CFW?

I saw the FAQ in the help section which mentioned the best way to jailbreak is through a CFW (I also read through the keamw 3.55 CFW tutorial)

Still I won't switch to a CFW untill I know that the USB dongle is completely useless.

3.55 KMEAW FTW just do it and say goodbye to dongles!

KMEAW has all the benefits of the dongle you have without the need to bother hitting eject everytime and without needing to change payloads (although you can do this VERY easily through multiman if a game requires it).

I have 2 old dongles laying around, and haven't looked back since KMEAW.

FRST Install OFW 3.55 and then through the recavery menu istall CFW 3.55 ROGERO V3.1,Last MULTIMAN 04.02.00(pkg),and BDEMU 2-3.55(pkg) and all game its work

Are you sure 3.55 spoofing won't fix my problem?
(I am considering to flash the CFW, but its a big risk so...)

Ooh man. That dongle is turly just obsolete, it has no use in those times, you can jb even with just a pendrive. And flashing CFW is as 'risky' as updating to any firmware (like OFW), = almost none. Seriously, on your place i would get Rebug CFW, one time install, forget about any dongles!

So I just have to get the official 3.55 firmware
patch it with the altered PUP file and install it through a USB stick.
Then All my managers, backups, other homebrew etc will work?

I'm pretty sure you can just update from 3.41 to a prepatched KMEAW without fear, from recovery (possibly even the XMB) I did :D

Install BDEMU2 pkg from DeanK to get backup managers working. Its a one off thing.

I'd say just install Rebug straight from 3.41 OFW, also use recovery, if you dont know how visit ps3devwiki.com.
