Can't say if it works for powerpc but you can give it a try

Edit: Red Ribbon works much like Ubuntu, maybe do some reading about Ubuntu to understand how Linux works

Sorry, don't know. I haven't tried this yet as I don't want to lose Showtime and MultiMan.

Red face pls..linux guru's :) HELP

thx everyonehere to get one going with linux

the red ribbon install from the LiveCD works great, fast , i'll keep getting File system read-only errors tho and when it boots back into GameOS, u get a system not correctly shutdown
i searched everywhere to no aveal and any remedy.

then i "manually" installed ubuntu with this guide
http://pastebin.com/PWTGRhi2

via Telnet, all goes fine, installed/compiled without any errors

2 new "Debian" lines at Petitboot (see image)

running both of them result into a hang with these errors:

init: plymouth splash-main process [580] terminated with status 2
init: plymouth main process [374] killed by SEGV signal

only thing i can recall not doing, meaning>> changing any settings for the USB keyboard at step6 - Configuring locales and keyboard

usb(wireless) works OK at petitboot but once booted a DEBIAN entry, it hangs at those errors and keyboard not working(no led on the receiver)

- Configuring locales and keyboard (Step 6)

type the commands below in to shell.
1. apt-get install locales
2. dpkg-reconfigure locales
3. apt-get install console-data
4. dpkg-reconfigure console-data

and always, if rebooting back to GameOS from Petitboot there are some read-only errors resulting in "system not correctly shutdown at XMB screen

after this, inserted Red Ribbon again, booted the LiveCD and choose Install
Let it delete/format/re-create the partitions, warning again that(swap partition?) is not "alligned" for performance

although, install completes 100% , runs fine, but again if i reboot, it goes back to Petitboot, if one choose "shutdown" it beeps with a flashing red led.
shutdown-boot GameOS, again system not shutdown correctly.

please, linux guru's, can u guide a linux noob on his way
thx!

looked up that plymouth error:

http://forum.linode.com/viewtopic.php?p=36797

You are receiving this error message as the new udevd in Ubuntu Lucid no longer supports mounting its own /dev mount point. You will need to add the following line to your "/etc/fstab" file:

----- SNIP -----
dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0
----- SNIP -----

Thumbs up aaarghh ;)

me back, thx for repy's guys , nxt manual ubuntu install i'll try that OoZic
i f**ked up..dam.. all friking day..takes some of ur time huh haha...

up and running clean Rebug OtherOS again

also here about "plymouth[/b[] error >HERE-Gitbrew

no luck testing that tho... and after some messing arround, nothing worked..lol (2times manual ubuntu) second time kexec error, cuse of messing with it

i'm in doubt what to choose:
Debian
Ubuntu

i'm going for "auto install" first this time, and although Red Ribbon looks good, it seems the others have better app support, always better

anyway, atm installed otheros/petitboot again

and as usual, if i try to reboot into GameOS, i'm getting File system read-only error, it begins with an USB2 read-only error, at that time nothing is connected yet(usb, network) and a "System not shutdown correctly..press OK"

PLEASE help me out with this, i think i read about "mounting" with WRITE permission cuse petitboot only mount with read perm?!

everything goes except those errors, i like to have this fixed before installing any distro

its fun alright, and using Telnet is awsome works very fast

btw, when one connects with telnet, it ask's for PASSWD (Attention)
i change passwd for UNIX? cant rember, goes it to SSL instead? u can't see this right? switching telnet to ssl?

cheers for any guidelines on the read-errors

edit:
@OoZic :

i just checked the guide i followed, it's from Gitbrew?, plus some "noob friendly" notes i guess

and the stuff one must add into etc/fstab -- tmpfs is in place, not like dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0 tho

this is not the same? should i add dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0 below all lines like this? >>

type “nano -w /etc/fstab” and paste all the text between the ---.

File /etc/fstab
----------------
/dev/ps3dd2 / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/ps3vram none swap sw 0 0
/dev/ps3dd1 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,ro 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid,noexec 0 0
dev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0

awesome thread guys....helped me out lots
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
i have a couple quick questions....
When partitioning the ps3dd... i should have 2 partitions? right?

I have one starts 1049kb Ends 2000MB
and another starts 2000MB and ends 21.6GB

Im just double checking that...

Secondly, when i try to install the red ribbion from the disk image i burnt, i get past the first two questions but it seems to hang when it asks about where to install. I click yes and it doesnt do anything and if i click no, it shows me the ps3dd drive and 22GB size, but when i click the yes button,it does the same thing....Im using the release candidate 5
