I believe you can, but I am the wrong guy to ask how. I have never used it. Like I said before I use my psp, which works great.

But have a look here and maybe there will be some info you need.

hi did you use your psp to enter service mode while process of e3 flasher?

or do you use it anytime to enter service mode?

Yes and yes.

I do not own a dongle. I use an app called PSJig, on my PSP 1001 on firmware 5.50 hen.

I plug my psp in the right most usb, with the app open.
Turn on the ps3 and wait.
I can then see the communication between the 2 on the psp's screen.
then the ps3 shuts off and I replace the psp with a flash drive with the files for whatever task I am doing.

My system was on Rogero v2, then Qa flag, then got the system to boot in recovery menu, selected option 6, put version 3.41 ofw on usb flash drive, as folders PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP.....surprise ...it never looked for this update,straight away it took the system to version 2.56, this was the minimum downgradable version of this system...dont know how it happened.

Then i put ofw 3.55 on usb drive and updated via system update, xmb, storage media... system booted to 3.55 ofw....

wanted to put kmeaw 3.55 , went into recovery mode, put kmeaw cfw 3.55, on usb flash drive , selected option 6 from recovery menu... same surprise, system came back to ofw 2.56...

then from xmb system update menu, storage media, updated to kmeaw 3.55 directly from ofw 2.56....it worked , now my system is on 3.55 kmeaw...hope this information might be useful to many people.

That is really interesting, but I don't understand how it would go to OFW2.56 if you did not have the OFW2.56 PUP file.

Your ps3 would have to get the update file from somewhere?

Did you have the 2.56 PUP file somewhere else on your ps3, internal hdd, a game in the drive, or something?

Ok everything worked, I am on rogero! But when I enter a dvd movie or a bluray game it is nowhere to be seen? neither the game nor the video!

Is this a rogero problem or something in the assembly of ps3? I checked and all bd cables are in place!

EDIT ok one cable was not.

This was a real surprise to me,

But Thats what happened , i only have ofw 3.41 and ofw 3.55 and cfw 3.55,(i had checked the minimum firmware of the machine and it was 2.56)

I guess each machine has its own minimum firmware backup built-in somewhere, from where it resets itself.

Did u change any settings in the qa flag options?
