Question boot problem

Hey everyone. I have a rather strange issue with a cecha01 ps3 I just received. It came from an auction site, the guy completely lied about what was wrong with it. He claimed he took it to work to blow out dust that had accumulated and it wouldnt power on. No lights, no power. I disassembled it and found a mess. he had spilled something along the front of the unit. The area around the reset ribbon cable connector was really gunked up and the copper trace along the front was corroded. I cleaned it up very thoroughly and replaced the eject button board and voila! power and lights. Now for the problem. Turning it on, the green light comes on for about 30 seconds then back off it goes. Insert a disc and blue light comes on. However, there is NO sound, and NO video. BUT, it WILL go into recovery mode just fine. So, I know the unit is sound. electrically everything is fine or it would not even go to recovery. Can someone please help me? I have tried each and every option in recovery to get it fixed, and had no changes. I know the hard drive is good as I gave it a fresh fat32 format. I am stuck. can someone give me some things to try or hints? thank you.

So wait. If you don't get an image on the screen, how do you know it goes in recovery mode properly? Just because it does the beeps doesn't mean it actually enters recovery mode. Sounds more like GLOD to me (if whatever the guy spilled didnt actually kill a component).
Check the hard drive light when booting the PS3. If it only beeps once quickly it's GLOD.

Thats just it, it will not boot normally and go to the sony logo with startup sound. It will shut off. however it will boot into recovery mode and have the graphics shown there and it will stay on however long needed in recovery mode. I cannot get it to boot normally. the yellow hard drive action light worked fine when attempting repairs in recovery mode.

When you do "System Update" in recovery, what version does it ask for?

Have you tried reinstalling the firmware?

It asks for anything 3.50 or above. I have a copy of 3.55 but may have named it wrong on thumbdrive as it would not recognize it as a viable update. I will try that again in the morning. I really appreciate the ideas and help. All I know is I really don't want to go above 3.55. I have had too many problems needing help above this fw and been stuck.

This thread caught my attention because I have a CECHA01 with a "green light of death" problem too, except mine won't go into recovery, or even video reset. If I press power and hold it, it just shuts back off after 5 or so seconds.

Check here near the bottom of the page:

http://ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Error_Codes

Says it could be either bad wifi/bt board connection, or hdd problem.
