How to Increase Your PS3 Download Speed(Tutorial)
![]() Here is how to increase your ps3 download speed, use your PC as a proxy server, and then your PS3 would connect to the Internet via your PC … And this way you get full download speeds and an awesome connectivity, plus you can monitor exactly at what speed your PS3 is downloading via Netlimiter (Explained below) Requirements: 1) You need a PC and a PS3 2) Both the PC and PS3 need to be on the same network So here is how to do this: 1) First, you need to determine the local IP of your PC. This is the IP at which you’re communicating with the modem/router, which is in turn connected with the PS3. This IP can be something like 192.168.x.x, or maybe 10.10.10.x, or something .. There are several ways of determining this .. Its something very basic which you can just search Google for .. (Just search for ‘how to find out your LAN IP’ or something). 2) Next, On your PC, download Privoxy: Privoxy’s website: http://www.privoxy.org/ Direct download link to the latest version (v3.0.17, Win32): http://sourceforge.net/projects/ijbs...7.exe/download 3) Start the installation, and its recommended you check the ‘Run automatically at startup’ option during setup, so that you don’t have to manually start Privoxy everytime you want to connect your PS3 to the Internet .. 4) Complete the installation, and then start Privoxy. 5) When the main window is open (looks like notepad), go to ‘Options’ –> ‘Edit Main Configuration’. 6) Search in this document (In Notepad: ‘Edit’ –> ‘Find’ or press CTRL +F), search for the following text: Code: listen-address 127.0.0.1:8118 The text around this line should be like this (the line we were searching for is marked in red): Code: # Suppose you are running Privoxy on an IPv6-capable machine and # you want it to listen on the IPv6 address of the loopback device: # # listen-address [::1]:8118 # listen-address 127.0.0.1:8118 # # # 4.2. toggle # ============ # # Specifies: # # Initial state of "toggle" status 7) When you find this text, change the 127.0.0.1 to your IP .. So for example in my case, the LAN IP of my computer was 192.168.1.10, so I changed this line to the following (change is marked in red): Code: listen-address 192.168.1.10:8118 And after this change, the text in this portion of the file should be like this (change is marked in red): Code: # Suppose you are running Privoxy on an IPv6-capable machine and # you want it to listen on the IPv6 address of the loopback device: # # listen-address [::1]:8118 # listen-address 192.168.1.10:8118 # # # 4.2. toggle # ============ # # Specifies: # # Initial state of "toggle" status 8 ) Now save this file and close the editor. 9) Make sure this program (Privoxy) is unblocked by any firewalls on your computer ! 10) Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet, and is ping-able. 11) Switch to your PS3 now .. 12) Go to ‘Settings’ >> ‘Internet Connection Settings’. 13) Choose ‘Custom’ when asked, and go through all the entries as normal, until you arrive at the point where it asks you if you want to use a proxy to connect to the Internet. Select the ‘Use Proxy Server’ (I think this is what it’s called), and go next .. 14) For the proxy server’s IP address, enter the LAN IP of your computer (which in my case was 192.168.1.10). 15) For the port number, enter 8118. 16) Go through the rest of the settings and then save the settings. 17) Once saved, PS3 will ask you if you want to test the new settings. Do so, and your PS3 should be connectable to the Internet. If its not, there is some problem .. 18 ) You should be able to sign in, downloads stuff from PS Store at awesome speeds, and do everything else as normal as well ! 19) Keep your PC on and make sure Privoxy is running whenever your tend to connect to the Internet on your PS3 .. 20) That’s it ! All your downloads should be blazing fast now ! Further highly recommended steps (optional, but would really help if done!): 1) Set a static IP for your PC in your modem’s/router’s settings. This way the same IP is assigned to your PC everytime is connects to the network, and so you won’t have to repeat the Privoxy settings again. 2) Install a software called ‘Netlimiter’ on your PC, which shows to how much data bandwidth each process running on your PC is eating. This is shown through realtime readings and graph plotting. You can use this to see exactly at what speed your PS3 is downloading at a given time, by monitoring the Prioxy process here ! For those wanting to setup a static IP but don’t know how to do it, here’s how: 1. Right click the 2 PCs icon (XP)/single PC/wireless signals bar (Vista/7) in the taskbar 2. After the pop-up appears, goto settings (XP)/goto Open Network and Sharing Center (Vista/XP) For XP: 3. Goto properties>then select TCP/IP or IPv4 from the list and then again properties>a new window will open up ![]() ![]() 4. In this new window, select Use The Following IP Address, and fill in all the details… 5. If you’re unsure what to fill, just go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all and press enter 6. Scroll up and find something similar like in the picture. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Jwj835Twy6...ipconfig_2.gif 7. Now that you have all the details, fill them in, apply and you’re good to go For Vista/7: 3. After opening the Network and Sharing Center, click on the connection you are connected to right underneath homegroup on the right side. This will open up the adapter settings through which you are connected to the internet, may it be wireless or wired… 4. Next you will have the same window as stated above in the XP steps, so follow the steps above in XP from 3 and onwards. 5. Done Combine it with the tutorial above to get blazing fast speeds Last edited by LoverboySimer; 02-09-2012 at 12:31 AM. |

Sorry for bumping a 2 week old thread but just wanted to show my appreciation for this and hopefully point it out to anyone who missed it.
Went to download God Hand off PSN there and it was gonna take 61 minutes! Followed the instructions in this thread and started the download again - 12 minutes! Ta :D |

I used the guide and connected. Everything went well; however, i don't see a dramatic increase in download speed. I used speedtest.net and it says that my computer downloads at 14.13 mbps, but my ps3 (after connecting using my pc as a proxy) is barely downloading at 1mbps. Does anyone know why this could be? And yes, my pc has a static ip.
