Ps3 HDD swap problem

I just got a 40gb PS3 and tried to swap a 160HDD, but turns out the laptop I took it out of doesn't like the 40 so I had to put it back in the PS3.

The problem is I already formatted and cloned the 40GB and now the PS3 can't read it and says I need to run recovery mode by pressing START and SELECT w/ FW 2.76 or higher. Mine you I haven't upgraded or modded this yet so I dunno what I did?

I just want to go to OFW 355 and then install the CFW and so on...did I **** this up? I thought you could swap in a new HDD and the PS3 formats it? What did I do wrong?

The laptop doesnt like the 40gb because its not formatted so windows or w/e os you have knows what is is. You will have to go into computer management to format it.

Your at the right part so far. Now all you have to do is find and download OFW 3.55. Once it updated to OFW 3.55 find Kmeaw 3.55 CFW. Once you find that restart your PS3 into recovery mode and update to the Kmeaw 3.55 CFW and wala your PS3 now has CFW.

As for putting updates on your ps3 just find a flashdrive/cd/dvd/etc... and place the PS3UPDAT.PUP in PS3/UPDATE/. Make sure the flashdrive is fat32 or the ps3 wont detect it. Once its inserted during the

then press start and select and it will start updating.

WARNING: Dont update via internet or you will get 4.10 ofw. If it ever asks to update past 3.55 dont do it unless you want to lose your CFW.

Hope this was helpful

Wouldn't he have to run the Windows disk to format the drive and install Windows? Unless he has two hard drives in his laptop.

Never thought of that but yea. As long as he has a windows disk around and not afraid of losing all his data if he doesnt backup.
If its an old laptop and he dont care about it then its all good.

I did format the 40GB HDD, in fact I cloned it as there was only 22GB used on the 160GB so it was NTFS and bootable. The HDD wouldn't show up in the BIOS at all, so the laptop isn't reconizing it thus it is a hardware issue and not software. Doesn't make a lot of sense, guess i'll have to buy another one.

As for the PS3 there is no format tools, says it can't read the HDD. I went into recovery mode and tried all the options and all say can't access the HDD. The problem was PS3 doesn't like NTFS so I had to reformat it to FAT32. Finally I ran 3.55 in recovery mode and updated 2.71 and now I am ready to jailbreak it.
