Ps3 with perfectly working Blue ray but not recognizing disks.

So i have this ps3... When i first got it, it would not connect to a TV Reason being unknown.. Theres one way to fix it which is going into the ps3 to the motherboard.. Stacking some pennies on the RSX drive to put more pressure on it. Honestly i have no idea what it does exactly but i got it to work fully functioning on firmware 3.55. Now I've opened up plenty of ps3s in my day. But upon opening this one i noticed that the motherboard was about half the size of all the others. It only went half way across the ps3 every single part was different. For the record it has 2 usb ports so its not an 80. I haven't done much research because i didn't think much of it at the time. It also has a black power core and completely different internals.. Maybe thats the original 20 or 60 i have no idea but this isnt the point im getting to.. Yet it has a great deal to do with it.

So part 2
After i got it fixed with the janky way to fix it yet effective i was already planning on installing custom firmware, its the whole reason i got the ps3 originally on 2.XX something i installed 3.55 no problem installed rebug 3.55.2 no problem. Then comes to updating rebug tried for hours to update to 0.6 but as soon as i click on it on the ps3 just a black screen never goes away.. So im like hmm. Interesting i cant figure this out. Ive also done alot with custom firmwares and jailbreaking so its not like im completely new but i was new to rebug. So i went and got kmeaw and planned to wait for my friend to help me out with what ever i was doing wrong.. I googled searched everything found nothing.. Besides the point. I reinstall the OFW and then install Kmeaw no problem. Then i noticed that same problem i tried to install blackbox ps3ftp anything everything having to do with pkg installation just goes straight to black screen.

Now not being my specialty i was wondering if its possible to have a ps3 that literally cant accept pkgs ive tried everything and every different file to make sure thats the problem. Please comment or give me any feedback. Maybe i dont even know that theres a ps3 thats not compatible with pkgs or installing them. Not sure on my end i did google it. Found nothing. Besides the point again let me know if anyone knows anything about this or how i could possible fix it thanks in advance for your time.

Sig. Sam

Update* as of 6:30 Of the same day i posted this..
No one has replied yet but i searched more and found i was looking in the wrong places so i replaced the blue ray drive with a basically new perfectly fine blue ray drive. Being i found quite a few forums on it. So i replaced it and still no luck it doesnt load up games being this has something to do with the motherboard i (think) Please still read up above and anyone with comments or information let me know. Sorry for all the reading i bet some people look and go naww not worth it.. But thanks again ill update if i try anything else

Yet another update..
Ive tried to rebuild the ps3 database on a normal OFW. I have no idea if this problem is fixable if anyone has any other ideas let me know. I saw one on youtube to vacuum out all of the dust and wa la it works i doubt it majorly but thats the only other option people are putting plausable. Once again thanks for anyone who helps or gives ideas. I didnt mention that rebuilding the data base did not work. Update 2*

Update 3 i tried some of the last things i could try what im looking for know is what chip on the motherboard is basically in charge of the blue ray drive its the only option for the problem.. Ive tried replaceing everything else in the ps3 running through the secret menu and making sure i did everything.. If i missed anything let me know. So i tried swapping

The blue ray no change*
The power core*
The wireless motherboard or in charge of internet on the ps3.. Not sure the name.
The only thing i havent tried switching is the motherboard which i should try swapping and see if it works fine which i know it will.. So i dont see a point by know. Anyone if anyone else reads this still looking for ideas id rather fix this. I got this far past one of the hardest problems so this is just another step in my eyes.. Thanks again

Alright if anyone has any more question or cant quite understand what im talking about this is the only place on the internet that i found something related to this..http://www.fixya.com/support/t601806...g_models_haved

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have to admit i thought the penny trick was ridiculous but without it this ps3 would have never worked. Yes i have tried to remarry the blue ray ive tried everything now.. Its still just the black screen when trying pkgs or games. Besides the point i dont think theres any way to fix this that doesnt envolve motherboard modification. I'll leave this open for any other ideas really apprecitate that remarry forum it was worth a try. I have plenty of time to work on it so any suggestions (no matter on time limit of fix) Thanks again everyone

From what I can gather, either your BD logic board is dead, or the cable that connects it to the motherboard is bad.
First off, try the old BD logic board with a different cable. If that doesn't work, plug your new one again. The new one would not work because you have to remarry it to the motherboard, there are tutorials on the net to do this.
You need a way to put the PS3 into service mode (NOT the service mode pkg, as you cannot run any pkg without a married and working logic board). You can do that with a dongle, PSP, smartphone, etc.

i NEVER trust the penny trick. And honestly I absolutely hate the idea that people are putting it on YouTube as a working solution. And yeah sounds like you need to remarry your drive.

I've got the same problem, PS3 on 3.41 that suddenly last weekend lost its blu ray drive and as a result I can't run any pkgs.
I have tried remarrying a new logic board ( got loads here ) but it would not work and before any says I did it wrong I didn't I've done plenty of remarry jobs on the PS3.

I thinking something has died on the motherboard because there is no comms between motherboard and logic board.

i always thought that when the logic bored is broke or the wrong logic board when the ps3 tries to update it will go in a update loop but this person was able to update fine and didnt go into update loop.

The penny trick did work for me. I had to make sure i put thermal compound onto the pennies before putting them on though. They are copper so they make a good conductor and put the right amount of pressure. But i would only recommend it to the original 40 GB it has the motherboard set up different so it fits in perfect. But im just mentioning it worked perfect for this ps3 i'm sure it will break soon but.. yea

Alright so i used a different program to try and remarry the motherboard. I do believe that may be my problem. Or its possible so quote me if im wrong but its impossible to remarry a blue ray unless you are on 2.30 OFW Fat or 3.15 OFW slim. Im not asking you directly anyone just quoting it here because of the link. Thanks much

Board sounds like a cechh/cechj. originally a 40gb model.

re: Penny trick, it's something I'd only use short term. You're trading off surface area for more pressure, issue is that you're placing pennies ontop of the chip. If you use it long term you chance warping the ihs. You're better off putting it something on the back inbetween the clamps and the board, bending the clamps or using washers ontop of the clamps.

Yes i did think about all of that. I got the ps3 completely free its only for hacking. And i highly doubt its going to work anyway. I did the penny trick to see if i could possibly fix all of the other problems. Ill go back in and try and make a better fix if i can possibly get by all the bumps in the road. But for right now its just a project trial and error.
