Blu ray Drive swap

Hi..

I have a Ps3 with a broken drive. The drive takes and ejects discs but will not boot them. I was lucky enough to find a friend with a broken PS who was willing to donate his drive in exchange for me repairing his laptop. The broken PS with the good drive was giving red yellow red lights..

Both playstations are launch model 60GB's.. The one with the broken drive is 3.55cfw and the donor PS with the good drive is a current ofw most likely 3.60.

I found a good tutorial on YouTube showing how to open the PS and replace the drive. I opened it with no problems and removed the drives. The tutorial instructs to replace the chip on the bottom of the drive.. Im not sure what this chip is called but I think it might be the logic board.

So when I went to test the drive it wont take a disc from me. If i press eject it makes a long unhealthy sound like its stuck trying to spit out a disc.

I tried swapping the logic boards but it acts just as I said above..

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Send a message via MSN to pbanj
that is a possibility but you should have tried swapping the laser out before the entire drive

solution and question

ok i have a quick question. does your drive have this tiny "switch" circled in this pic. it seems to me that it stops the lens and lets it know that it is in all the way. i broke mine and after that it wouldn't take disk when minutes before i broke it the thing was fine. but without this little switch the gear pulling the lens just keeps on spinning causing a clicking/grinding sound since it doesn't know to stop anymore (keeps pulling in grinding on the rail). has the drive been taken apart? and it's a cheap part to buy..maybe $10USD at the most to get of ebay.
also anyone know a photo editor i could circle stuff and make arrows on the image? i had to do that editing on photoshop.com took forever.
