Installing Ubuntu CECHB 20gig. No DiskDrive.
Sorry For vague title but I didn't know what else to put..
I used This Tutorial to get to a point where I can install Linux to my Ps3. I used the CFW 3.55 that leaves 1/8th of your HDD for GameOS. And then followed that Tutorial up until the system boots into petitboot ( I didn't have a Wired keyboard where i was at, I do now, will a Wireless mouse not work either? I didn't think of that..) I'm gonna run the config system here in a bit. and then I would like to install Ubuntu 10.10 PowerPC64 (ps3?). However, here is my downfall, I don't have a working Disk drive in my CECHB 20gb Sys. The laser reader is burnt out, and I don't have the screws to hold it in place as it is. Is it possible to boot and therefor install from a USB drive like I am able to do for my Netbook with no disk drive? Or Do I need to get a diskdrive that is USB connection, But isn't that the same concept? And could someone clear up where I run the commands that are listed on This guide? Thank you for taking the time to look and think about my issues, I'm a noobie starting this game very late to the party... |

The official Ubuntu 10.10 for PPC doesn't contain an OtherOS++ compatible kernel. Better download the Red Ribbon RC5 iso, mount it on your pc (deamon tools or something else) and copy the contents to the root of a fat32 flash drive. Petitboot will recognize it if everything goes well
![]() If you want to stay with Ubuntu follow this guide: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/OtherOS%2B%2B#Ubuntu. Note that Red Ribbon is especially made and optimized for the PS3, with Ubuntu you have to do this yourself (like mounting the RSX memory to swap). Red Ribbon is almost the same as Ubuntu ![]() For the commands you need to go to the shell in Petitboot....

Thanks for the Tip, I'm looking into it right now. If all goes as planned i'll have this old beast brought to life.
As for The wireless Mouse, and a wireless keyboard, I realize that they don't work in PetitBoot, but will Red Ribbion recognize them? Last edited by EvoMethod; 04-07-2012 at 03:30 PM. |
