Dual boot, possible?

Isn't it possible to install 4.11 firmware on the hdd and run it on the ps3 (3.55) with virtual drives? So let the PS3 think that the folders are drives.

I am talking about something similar like Dark_Alex' Timemachine (PSP).
With that you can switch firmwares with button combination (start-up). The CFW is in the nor/nand but the OFW is on the HDD.

I was thinking of installing the 4.11 PUP with a selfmade plugin.
So the update manager "thinks" that the nor/nand is actually the nor/nand but it is the HDD. We don't need the keys for that right?

Isn't that possible?

edit:

Maybe also important, on the PSP it worked with service mode.

It is possible to dual boot. You need 2 hdd and a hardware flasher(e3 flasher). Search dual boot in the search tap.

I know that, but isn't it better to have a easier solution?
It should be possible that way.

That makes sense so me but I know nothing, are you talking about partitioning off you your hdd and making a dedicated spot for firmware?

Exactly what I am talking about.

I think it could be possible with a selfmade lv2diag.self.

I have no knowledge about this so I am not sure.

edit:

So I mean:

- We have firmware 3.55 installed on our nand/nor.
- We install 4.11 with a modified update process, so it installs it on your hdd
- We write a self made lv2diag.self. Make some kind of dual boot with button combination.

When you hold L1 + X it will boot 3.55 (nor/nand), when you hold L1 + [] it will boot 4.11(hdd, sandbox).

The 4.11 will run in some kind of sandbox.

JIG / Factory Service Mode / manufacturer

The PS3 can enter a special "Service Mode". When it does (and can boot harddrive/dev_flash) the bottom right hand corner of the screen has a red translucent rectangle with the words "Playstation 3. Factory/Service Mode" inside of the rectangle. When the PS3 is off, plugging a special "JIG" in the USB port (and then pressing Eject immediately after pressing the Power button), the PS3 is triggered into Service Mode when it boots up. This special mode then accepts firmware code loaded in from the USB port (PS3UPDAT.PUP), and allows reflashing the firmware chip, or running programs from a USB drive.

So my idea is the program is the dual-boot manager.
Ofcourse just dual-boot is not enough.

Yes, that's what I am thinking. You can put your PS3 in service mode without a dongle.

It will be easier to load firmware that way I think.

I really want to learn all this, but it is a huge process and I don't have much time.
