ps3 wont read games - just CD's and movies

So it all started when I was playing "COD MW2" online, I was pwning for a few minutes and then my ps3 started making (LOUD) clicking noises, I looked at my ps3 then looked back at my screen to find the game frozen (Happened Rarely), I then unplugged it and plugged it back, turned it on and gave me message upon booting that says data might be corrupt and ya da ya da ya da, I did the whole process. but when I reached the XMB the disc icon wasn't there so I ejected the disk and slipped it inside the system again. As soon as it started spinning, the clicking noise would start and the disk icon wouldn't show up on the XMB. I tried slipping in a music CD in the system and read it marvelously with no clicking noise the same with a movie.

#I am a little bit experienced repairing ps3 systems (never encountered problems with disks not reading)

#I had updated it from kmeaws 3.55 CFW to 3.73 OFW.

If anyone can help a fellow out it'd be very very appreciated.

Could be the laser lens is going bad. Sometimes when they first start to go bad, they will still read dvds and cds. The bigger the media the harder the lens has to work to read it.

The clicking may be the lens travelling back and forth trying to read the blu ray.

I would start by cleaning it.

Hmmm ok, it's just that sometimes if you try out PS1 games (or PS2 games if you have a backwards compatible one) and they work when you've had problems with PS3 games then that can give you more clues as to what is wrong.

This worked for me and it may not work for you but try it anyway before you replace the laser etc. Firstly when your PS3 has booted to the XMB, press and hold down the eject button for around 12 seconds until you hear noises coming from the drive, then try to play your game again and maybe try turning off and then on your PS3 again to see if it made a difference. If that doesn't work go to the recovery menu and rebuild the database and see if you can play your games again. Finally if the above don't work then backup your data and do a FULL HDD format...not quick, FULL. I had an old CECHA01 PS3 about a year ago that refused to play games (PS1/PS2 and PS3) and I tried EVERYTHING...then I did a full format which took more than an hour and since then I've had no problems with disc-reading.

If all of this doesn't help then you're going to have to fix your drive and if cleaning the lens doesn't work then you'll probably have to order another one.
