i was just about to get to it. i did some research and apparently, as far as firefox and utorrent, you're in no luck, because those apps don't exist for ppc64. not even chromium does.

as for flash, you can use the gnash plugin, just search gnashplugin or gnash in synaptic and you'll find it. BE WARNED, YOUTUBE VIDEOS ARE VERY SLOW! (Lack of proper hardware acceleration). And yes, you HAVE to use IceApe, SeaMonkey or KDE browser

about the sound, i encountered the same problem as you did after the script.

push at the same time ctrl + alt + f1 on the environment to switch to tty1 (to switch back to desktop environment ctrl alt f7), login, and enter as root this command

Code:
tasksel
select the Desktop environment with Space bar, change with tab to OK (make sure Desktop Environment is highlighted first) and press enter. it'll install the full stuff you need for sound and everything.

What do you mean "the environment"?

And the clock resets itself everytime I boot up. There a fix for that?

The minimal desktop environment is what i was referring to... to be more specifical, when you start seeing video output to the graphics, you can switch between environments.

Clock resets itself? That's strange. I don't have that problem here :/

@joblo , gameOS apps have support for proper hardware acceleration while linux doesn't.

i think freeBSD has some support. it was news a while ago iirc.

edit: oh, right, the browser xD. same as before, proper hardware acceleration support. basically, anything that runs in lv2 has it

Things like that can be changed to Red Ribbon, but it makes it unstable so not advised. Remember the PS3 is just a simple computer with only 252 MB real ram (4 MB reserved) when it comes to Linux. Linux isn't optimized to make use of the SPE's and doesn't have the (highly wanted) RSX drivers. That is why Red Ribbon is made as small as possible so it is usable on the limited PS3. Ubuntu for example runs a bit slower on the PS3.

But you can also split the 22 Gb ps3dd partition to 2X 11Gb partitions (or use a CFW with bigger OOS partition) and install another Linux distro to the other partition with boorstrap etc. I have had 3 different distro's at once on the PS3 once on 3 different partitions

Btw, Aros runs ok on Red Ribbon

(but thanks for the compliment )
Why would you need more than 1 distro?

now only i don't get why no "normal" ubuntu desktop enviroment after installing like usual? i have installed gdm GNOME, i can switch at th elogin/choose interface but GNOME/Openbox only show the background and rightclick menu, no toolbars/menu?

another thing is the screen resolution, is there any way making ubntu full screen @ 1920x1080
atm, it's 1656x900 - AUTO

tested values like video=ps3fb:mode133 adding in kboot.conf

nothing changed, any help?

another thing is the users?
i checked "users" in therminal

Are there any news about getting write access to the Game OS-files in Red Ribbon? It would be awesome if you could fix the permissions - any solution? :D
