Question Restoring a Backup to a Different PS3

Question: Is there any way to retrieve the Memory Card Utility save game files from the backup data of another PS3? Any windows utilities?
------------------
Explanation: So my 20 GB PS3 (-CECHB01) gave me a YLOD. I had completely backed up its HDD via the Backup Utility a week prior and successfully restored all the data to an 80 GB Seagate 5400 RPM I upgraded to. It restored all my ps1 & ps2 memory card data and was playing fine for a few days (no blinking lights, fan whines, odd noise, antifreeze leaks, etc) and then YLOD.

After the YLOD, I purchased a 60 GB (-CECHA01) and the restore process didn't restore any of my PS1/PS2 save games. The message came up stating "The data was backed up from a different PS3 system. Some data cannot be restored. Refer to the online manual for more information." Called Sony support for poops and hahas they said that PS1 & PS2 save games are hard-keyed to only work or be recognized on the original PS3.

Any ideas?

(I've searched google and this forum before posting. Closest thing I could find was the ColdReader PS3 Save Unlocker, which seems to only work on PS3 save game data. But I got all my PS3 save games back.)

To answer your question as far as i am aware there is no way for PS1 and PS2 game saves to work on any other PS3 apart from the one it was created on unless your jailbroken and can FTP into it and place the saves in the correct places.

Otherwise i am not sure apart from that.

There is only one other way that i no it will work for sure and that is by having Playstaion Plus which as you no can upload all your saves an be transferred to any PS3 your logged into and can play freely.

These are the only ways i think that it can be done atm unless there is a save unlocker for PS1 & PS2 looks like you could be stuck bud.

Sorry if this is not very helpful.

You cannot restore a backup made for one ps3 to a different ps3. If you can somehow get your ps3 to cut on you can copy most of your saves to a USB drive and then copy them to the new ps3, but a full backup will never work.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yeah, unfortunately the original PS3 won't stay on long enough for me to pull off the Playstation Plus "to the cloud" method. FWIW I suggested to the support rep that they should seriously fix this oversight, since there are going to be a BUNCH more YLODs popping up, given all the old PS3s that remain out there.

The only other thing I can think of trying is playing around with the archive.dat files. Maybe one of the dat files serves as the "key" file? Dunno.

Have you tried using a hair dryer I dont reccommend it, but it may help by allowing you to cut that ps3 on long enough to get your saves

A hair dryer? How would I go about using that? Would blowing it out with an air compressor work, too, so I could keep it on long enough to upload my saves to Playstation Plus?

No air will not work. Heat is needed because a cracked solder joint is usually the cause of YLoD. Applying heat will make it work long enough to get your saves. Just pump hot air into the back for about 10 or 15 minutes, and you should get it powered on for a short amount of time.

I might try the reflow method as a last resort, I had about 14 internal memory cards.

I did come across Giulio19992's PS3 Backup Tool, though. Apparently (from one of the posts):
...the PS3 recognizes the backup and restore, not only the "Integral" part, but even the part (50%) you added.

So the new formula is:

archive.dat + archive_XX.dat = INJECTOR
archive2.dat + archive2_XX.dat = DATA TO WRITE

You need the INJECTOR to begin the Write process. If you don't add Archive2.dat to your backup the PS3 writes the INJECTOR only. You need to create yourself the INJECTOR, in fact, it's unique for backups. If you have an old INJECTOR you can use it.
(post found here - http://www.*******.com/ps3-hacks-jai...rrors/page-16/)

The tool sounds like a step in the right direction, since it's aim seems to be merging data from one PS3 backup to another's. Any opinions on this?

Hair dryer method didn't work (20 minutes, back vents). I still have the old HDD and the backup data, so whenever some one talented makes it possible to decrypt the dat files and restore a PS3 backup to a different console so that PS1/PS2 saves are restorable, I'll have to live with it.
