How to use Red Ribbon??
Having trouble using linux.
Cant install any program thats not included in the Synaptic Package Manager. Followed all guides on the net to the letter and still not having results. Can anyone give me a step by step or something on how to install these programs on the Linux Red Ribbon PS3? -firefox (No, not Icewesel, the REAL firefox) http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...rom=getfirefox -utorrent http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=linux -adobe flash player http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ And how do I get access to the root terminal. My password and login are correct and its not letting me use it. been struggling for a week and ****s just not working. Last edited by joblo; 04-26-2012 at 12:43 AM. |

well, the first thing you need to remember is that, although Red Ribbon is dedicated to the ps3, it doesn't have access to the kind of apps debian or ubuntu does. the second thing you need to remember is your password from the point you installed red ribbon, if you wish to add some more repositories to get your packages, although i HIGHLY recommend debian as distro (nikitis' debian script makes almost everything automatically, you just to need to insert some things and select a few options, and you're good to go).
please remember that, whilst his script is a very good one, i've encountered some problems when retrieving the first packages (it usually jams when getting a determined package). http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/PS3:Linux#Debian You can also do it manually, if you feel like you're up to the task

well, i use Red Ribbon aswell, but since debian has all that i need, including flash and all the stuff preinstalled , when i format, i often feel the need to switch to it. it's a change between debian / Red Ribbon

Or do I only do it via the method listed on the url you gave me: http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/PS3:Linux#Debian My PS3 is a FAT Nor model so I assume I would follow the Slim guide? I'm more comfortable installing it via CD (Same way as Red Ribbon). If it is as awesome as you claim it to be and it will make life easier watching youtube videos and web browsing, installing programs etc. then im all for it. |

I thought Red Ribbon was debian based? It may take more work but you can get anything that would run under debian PPC to run under red ribbon I would think.

it'd certainly make your life easier, but i suggest you analyze the script in order to find out what you're looking for to add to Red Ribbon, instead of trying to run it over and over again like i did several times in the past, not being able to pass the initial fetching packages stages
