A deci-core O.o, well the only ones I can think of that you would probably be able to get you hands on are the intel engineering samples on ebay. I do not know of any AMD deci-core CPUs that you would be able to get your hands on. Oct-core woud be easier as there are both engineering samples from both intel and the already available bulldozer from amd that you can get. keep in mind that the intel cpus iirc are hyper threaded so each core can process in a sense 2 threads and the os will detect it as a 20 core or a 16 core cpu. Also motherboards aren't out for the engineering samples so finding them is up to you if you choose to go that route. I do not recommend buying engineering samples of anything as I have never done so myself and I hear its a hit or miss whether you find a working one or not.
Exactly my question as well lol. 32 GB is an insane amount for a computer for any home use. There are plenty of people on the forums that have high end systems and it seems Mackdanny is trying to build something of a beyond high end, something I call enthusiast level lol.

It performs well for the price but couldn't tell you first hand since I don't have one my self. It's performance though left many disappointing compared to what AMD had originally hyped but its still a good performer, also keep in mind that performance wise it loses to the Intel competition but wins in the price to performance apparently. If you are planning on building a high end computer I would wait for the deci-core ivy-bridge or get a hex-core version since they will surely outperform the bulldozer, you can also wait for bulldozer's successor.

Nice of you to sum up driver issues as "an old computer".. First off, I've been building and testing various different pc's for the last 15 years. I've had driver issues with three different ati cards over the years. The "old computer" received that card new when it was still second to the top of the line, as I buy the next to top for the price drop. Issues have plauged that 2600hd since it's purchase. As for nvidia giving problems in an old computer, that is BS. Who is trying to miss lead now, I have two old PC's with nvidia cards with no issues. Further more have NEVER had ANY issues with their cards/ drivers. (Reason I recommended them) Ati has been known for there **** drivers. For another example, doing a upgrade to another card you first must uninstall the old ati drivers. Unless your not that old you'll know where I'm going with this... if not, there uninstaller would remove your Gart driver (yes agp). Could have ati gotten their $hit together? Sure, but since they have burned me with issues I refuse to buy them. Another example, they started to require .NET for their catalyst drivers. Would have been great if they put it on the installation CD. Further more what really set me off was I had no internet at the time. They might be old computers now, but the issues happened while it was new. Not just new to me, tech wise. Now before you claim I'm "miss leading" I'm talking about issues that I've come across in MY PAST. Not all hardware reacts the same to each other. Claiming there is no issues with a product, then calling someone a liar when they emerge would classify you as an ignoramus. As I've stated above, it is possible they have gotten their act together. Would I waste my money again to find out..... hell no End rant |

i too have had more issues with ATI over nvidia
even on my AMD xfire motherboard, ATI had issues and i resorted to nvidia and not had an issue since. also 3d is poorly supported on ATI cards compared to nvidia in case you fancied some 3d gaming. some people seem to get very lucky and have nice systems with ATI but unfortunately, i never have. i will try again next time i upgrade but im not holding my breath |
