Argh AMD Radeons, Never Again!

When I first got a PC all so many years ago, I went with ATI Radeons, but they went downhill IMO and so I moved to Nvidia.

Had to buy a new MB and the one I got only supports ATI Crossfire, I onlyuse one graphics card so didnt really matter.

But then my graphics card died on me again, seeing as I have already reflowed it 4 times in the last year I thought it's time to get a new card.
Seeing as ATI were bought by AMD and reviews say that Radeons are back up to spec, I thought I'd try one again.

Big mistake!! I bought a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7770, and Guild Wars 2 just kept on randomly crashing. But then so did Photoshop??? Never had a problem with my old Nvidia, and when I looked at the event viewer it showed that the faulting module was aticfx64.dll
Anyway, to make sure it wasnt my system or maybe some left of nvidia files causing a conflict I reformatted my PC and installed a fresh copy of win7. Still the same driver kept failing.

Well good news is that I was given a refund for the Radeon, but the store didnt have any GF 550Ti in stock; even tried to sell me the new GF 650 even though they cost more but their benchmark is lower than the 550! They said the 650 is supposed to replace the 550, funny that the 550 looks to be a better card though.

Anyhow that's my latest dealing with Radeon graphics cards, will be staying away from them again and sticking with Nvidia...

It's just bad luck, it happens with nvidia cards too(happened to my brother with a faulty 560ti).
I recently bought a sapphire 7870 and i'm pretty happy with it, i can play all recent games on ultra setting + very good performances when i work with photoshop, illustrator, after effects,3ds max and maya.

I have a AMD Radeon HD 6770M, and never had a problem with it. I don't use it for gaming, though.

Seems to me a memory error or a power supply thats to light for the system.

what kind of power supply do you have ?

There was nothing wrong with the card itself, they tested it and said they cannot see anything wrong with it, that it's probably just incompatible. I didnt ask if they mean incompatible with some of my hardware or with photoshop, but one thing I get from this is that AMD are not good at developing their drivers. Just google aticfx.64.dll or aticfx32.dll and you can see a lot of people having problems with a lot of programs and games. Some issues were fixed by updating to the latest drivers, but I tred 12.8, 12.7 and 12.6 and each one causes photoshop to crash.

I think they meant a hardware incompatibility like the psu for example.
I know that a lot of people have problems with ati cards but usually it is just a case of an inadeguate psu or a conflicting driver.

Personally i stress my card a lot with my graphics applications and games like skyrim with 30-40+ mods enabled and it never crashed once.
