Formatting the HDD
I want to format my hdd and I have a few questions:
1. I have CFW installed. If I format the HDD, will it keep the CFW or return to the OFW? 2.After formatting, does it ask to update? |

The motherboard will leave you on your current firmware, regardless of OFW or CFW

It shouldn't ask for update, if your worried it will update just disconnect form internet and remove any media with PUP'S on it such as Game discs, and usb flash drives.

If you have a NOR PS3 (latest fat models and the slim models), a part of the OS is on your HDD and you need to re-install the CFW in that case ...

Just disable the internet from the playstation's settings and connections tab and you'll be fine. Also just in case I recommend updating to the original 3.55 update, unless you have a NOR PS3 you won't need to as the current version is stored and the firmware is on the actual PS3 HDD.
