"Snakes Revenge" was not done with the knowledge of Kojima and on an interview (i will try to find it later) he asks for the fans of the series to just ignore this game and says that the game is a shame

The sequel of the Original MSX2 "Metal Gear" is called "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake"

*I think I had already posted this in another thread
*The original Metal Gear for NES is a bad port, even the final boss is not the same
*MSX was not a SONY machine. This computer was created by ASCII Corporation. Sony was just one of the manufacturers producing models of MSX (precisely the model I had at the time, a MSX2+ called "hitbit")

Yeah man I think I phrased it wrong, but yeah:

Its success (Metal Gear) led to the creation of two separately produced sequels; the first one, Snake's Revenge, was produced specifically for the NES in North America and Europe in 1990 and the other, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, was the sequel developed by Hideo Kojima and released in Japan for the MSX2 during the same year as a response to the former's creation. The latter was followed by Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation in 1998, which was in turn followed by numerous sequels and spinoffs (see Metal Gear series).

"While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."

"If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we'd want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

"We do want to do that sometime down the road but it will take more time. It's not something we're looking at doing right now."

I love Splinter Cell but I don't know why MGS never got my attention.. even if it's a PS3/4 exclusive I'll pass this one.

I agree that splinter cell is awesome, the gameplay is more dynamic. But I always wonder how he manages to hide in the shadows with 3 giant LED on his head

Agreed (as a whole on the gameplay front), although for me (talking about the game series):

- Splinter Cell: better gameplay mechanics than Metal Gear Solid and has more replayability value than Metal Gear Solid (I played Chaos Theory on PC/PS2, and I played Double Agent on PC once and on PS2 once on the console, and twice via PCSX2, an emulator in which @General Plot is famous for betatesting), but its storylines aren't THAT original or has an original take on the common storyline formula (e.g. US government has rogue people, Third Echelon gets involved in some yellow/brown man's country blah blah blah blah SNORE).

- Metal Gear Solid: gameplay mechanics are primitive compared to Splinter Cell and its games lack replayability (that and the idiotic instructions that Roy Campbell (Paul Eiding) gives out make me cringe a bit, such as "press the X button to f*ck Naomi Hunter in a 69er whilst she gives you a vaccine", and "press the O button to give Mei Ling a dickslap"), BUT the strongest point for me is how the storylines are structured, and how thrilling and/or original they feel, sans the lengthy cutscenes.

Having said that, even though I prefer Splinter Cell on a gameplay basis, I tend to prefer the Metal Gear series mainly because of the gaming experience as a whole, and I feel that the storylines (and the gaming experience that comes with it) plays a huge part in what makes Metal Gear what it is today

I played MGS4 for the same reason. But for some reason I preferred the gameplay of the previous games. I do not dislike the game, just like less than previous MGS titles.
