Part of sonys restructering they will lower production costs of the Ps3 with reduced production runs. Lets remember the ps3 is an old man in terms of games console only the xbox 360 out living it. Send in the young blood of the wii u

Was just going to point this out, I know it's supposed to be cheaper, but you would think that they would at least give you a n series wifi adaptor.

That's the thing with the PS3 console, it's also been found wanting. Always something missing, or of inferior quality when something better could have been used.

Sony missed out on wireless N and now wireless AC is out. Sony will probably have 802.11AC when the PS4 comes out, hopefully.
