Blu-Ray Drive Issues
Hi all,
I'm having an issue with a PS3 I bought. I originally bought it as spares or repair due to the Blu-Ray drive not working, this wasn't an issue as I only wanted it to play games stored on the hard drive. Bugger, it didn't work. XMB works fine, playstation store is ok, it streams films, music etc fine. Issue is every time I try and start a game it starts loading up then the screen just goes black and it needs a power off to reset it. It was then I discovered this wonderful place and have since found out that it was more than likely down to the duff Blu-Ray drive that it wouldn't load any games. So I bought a working Blu-Ray drive and, armed with information gleaned from the 'Search' function swapped over the logic boards and tried again. Bugger, it still didn't work. Searched again and now I am under the impression that the logic board may be at fault and I need to re-marry the new one to the mainboard. Only problem is that it is running 4.20 firmware. Now finally down to the questions; So far does my logic appear sound and the logic board is at fault? If so, am I at the mercy of the local repair shop or should I just give up and use it as the biggest, loudest media player ever? It is an old 40Gb fat PS3 if that makes any odds. Thanks in advance. Yep I thought that might be the case. I think I'll just buy a working one then.
Thanks for the reply. |
