if I update from 3.55 CFW CEX, to 4.20 OFW DEX, I'll still be able to play all my 3.55 and prior backups, plus, all my originals from BD, right ?

no backups like you have now are only possible on 3.55 (either cex or dex) originals are playble on every firmware, homebrew will be availble on every firmware, as long as it doesn't need peek&poke (most don't), and you can downgrade and upgrade at will.

I can, and i wouldn't have said it if i didn't know. This is probably not a full convert, even internally a full convert hasn't been achieved, but this one here converts and works, that is only the algo its missing some steps though, you will need to marry the bd-drive after it etc. but the hard part is right on the OP. also don't throw them away, you never know when this will be automated into a tool, or maybe you can do it right now, grab your dump and start extracting the isoldr XD

well if you update from cfw to say 4.20 dex and be able to play 3.60+ ORIGINAL games then i say hell yeah. dont see a bad really. imo only dongles would suffer and pirates/warez if backups are unplayable

Tell me more about downgrading. I updated about a month ago from 3.55 CFW to 4.xx OFW. You are telling me, if I convert my PS3 to DEX, I can downgrade from 4.21 to 3.55 and then upgrade back to 3.55 without the need of a flasher? The risks?

No, you've to downgrade from 3.56+ to 3.55 and then you can use CEX to DEX

You need to be on 3.55 or 3.56MA to use this

hi there coz bd emulator only allow to run debug eboots...ps3gen is only to compile them masterisos bd emu etc... I mean you are allow to play 360+ games on dex only in bd drive retail eboots.
