No matter what, you would make money on it. a sealed console is always worth more in a few years. I would not worry about losing money. Just worry about not making as much as you want.

Anyways, on a side note: I have finally gave in and opened my PS3. Firmware is 1.10 and all is well... Except the fact that the waterblock is not made for my PS3. It said it was but it obviously isn't. Maybe for a second or third gen, but not mine. Will have to search around for the right one.

It's not that simple.
Sealed CECHA's are worth much more because of all the extra features they have. You won't know for sure if the next PS console will have features taken away from post-launch revisions (I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave it the bare minimum at release this time).
And the later models of a system are almost always more reliable than the earlier ones.
