Noob Questions

Hello, I don’t even know if I’m asking on the right place but I’m new on ps3 hacking so I’m probably going to ask only stupid questions. The only modding experience I had so far was with the Nintendo wii so I must ask the experts here. Anyway, basically… the only thing I want to know is if the MultiMAN backup manager can load psx and ps2 ISOs as well or just ps3 ones. I’ve also read somewhere that your ps3 must be compatible with ps2 and psx games as well or something, or is that only for running discs?

Well, so lemme see if I got it right, firstly you jailbreak the ps3 with Kmeaw CFW 3.55, then install MultiMAN backup manager right? But I’m sure something else is required as well. If possible I’d want to know all of the stuff I’m gonna need and what ps3 is compatible etc. So I can buy the correct ps3 and play the psx/ps2 isos on it. This is the main reason I want to get a ps3, because there are a lot of good games for those two systems.

The SEARCH function works quite well on this site.

If you are on 3.55, just install kmeaw 3.55, the latest version of multiMAN and BDEMU2 and you should be all good. multiMAN can only run PS1 and PS3 backups, if you want to run PS2 games, you'll need Cobra USB (it's a USB Dongle).

But if you are on 3.56 or above, you'll need to downgrade with a hardware flasher, and of course, this depends the model of your console, some models can't downgrade.

Thanks a lot, this clarifies my questions. And so, what model do you reccomend me to get in order to prevent having trouble?

Ah, so you still don't have the console? Then I recommend you to look for an old model, a CECH-2000 or CECH-2500 already jailbroken, or a FAT model.

DON'T BUY THE CECH-3000!

It's hard to find one already jailbroken in Rio de Janeiro, so I recommend you to look in Mercado Livre or another similar site.

No, don't worry about it. I'll jailbreak myself. Everything I need is an USB and the firmwares right?

But what I mean is that what ps3 version should I get. Like 60gb... 80gb... or something else.

-EDIT-

whoops, sorry lol. I didn't notice the first sentence of your post (the one that's in gray) My bad.

So one like this maybe?

Try to find a Slim 160GB or 120GB, CECH-2000 or CECH-2500, but be careful, they might have a firmware above 3.55 installed, if that's the case, then you'll need to downgrade using a hardware flasher like E3 Flasher or Progskeet (no softmod solution).

But if you have enough luck to find one in 3.55, you'll just need a USB flash drive and the files for the softmod. You'll see, it's easier than softmod a Wii.

And be careful, some CECH-2500 models can't downgrade either.

EDIT: Yes, that's the one! But....it's a bit expensive.

Is one like this acceptable as well? (Even though it's 250GB?)

Besides, holy mother it's expensive! And it says this one is already jailbroken. But I wanted to do it myself. Should I trust on the way the guy jailbreaked it?

I would say look elsewhere, a ps3 shouldn't be worth more just because its soft-modded. Although Depending on the price I would personally pay a little more for a CECHA01. And yes it really is just a USB drive and the downloaded MFW, again though make sure the ps3 is on or under 3.55.
