Sony will more then likely release a scaled down version of the PS3 as they have for the entire history of the Playstation series of gaming consoles. Is this it? I dunno, but removing the mechanical drive and using newer tech would lead to a lower price for consumers.

I might add that the PS2 is still selling well especially for people that have a limited income which in the USA is around 15% of the population, but I'd include more then that figure due to more external factors not included in the official USA's poverty level.

Honestly, I'd spend £99 (about $150 US) just for a PSN companion to my DEX machine, to bad it's only a rumor. I hope DEX never has a PSN exploit. Even if DEX didn't allow backups, the fact that we can now play retail 3.56+ games and retain 3.55 backup capabilities is a major breakthrough.

this reminds me of the psp cheap edition with one speaker, im still confused whenever or not it has a hard drive ?, it has 16gb flash which makes me wonder the cost to produce flash, but theres 250 and 500gb so it would have a hdd.best not too think too hard with these rumors.
look ugly too, like a fat ps3 crushed

I dunno... I'm sure it will still have a hard drive dock. If thats the case I don't see any reason to NOT own one.

Please, I implore you, explain to me what this new SKU has to do with dongles? (This isn't the first time I have seen you post "dongle showdown" when the article contents do not have anything to do with dongles).

From what I already know:
SONY has made it next to impossible to use jigs (the original JB dongles) and DRM dongles are meaningless on OFW past 3.55.

So WHY IN THE HELL does the title say "dongle showdown?" Why would Sony be fighting something they won with the 3.60 updates?

All this thing is is a face-lifted PS3. Perhaps Sony put in some more fortifications against hacking into the hardware, but other than that, it is the same 'ol same 'ol.

Well assuming that series 3K comes with 3.6x OFW stock (if i recall well) 4k will come with some other higher OFW but less security on hardware area.
If in series 3000 they managed to render useless hardware flashers, in series 4k they will render useless the system and probably open *serious* doors to the one who want to explore this *new* system a little further (knowing how sony works).

So probably according to 2 Anon sources, the SKU along with another security measures will allow some kind of downgrade (rumour) on this 4K ones.
Hence the product it's not top tech and neither top quality.
Maybe it's the last resource for the DRM dongles (or the ones actually trying to do some profit with them) they will expect the release of this 4K.
For reasons that i don't know.

It's all i can say.
I know since 3.6x they lost the battle, but they managed to poison us almost a year or more.
Maybe..(speculation/rumour) this is the last resource. Until ORBIS is announced the last scream for profit from sony side as well from DRM dongle creators.

And yes it's the same ol' story just a poor intent to squeeze some more dollars from a mediocre product.

Thank you.

That said though, knowing how Sony reacts to hacks, I doubt they will lay back and watch it get hacked. Keep in mind that it is virtually impossible to downgrade past factory installed firmware.

Either way, no matter if Sony slacks off with the hardware, there is virtually nothing dongles will be able to do.

@Cheesethief They let the dogs *out* already, i doubt they will stay still on this one.
The method helped so much the end user, allowing to do with certain limits the hell what he/she wants with the product they bought.
So in terms of TOS, and among other legal paraphernalia they have all the winning cards so far.

I hope many of the *converted* ones are aware that this won't last forever. (Not to sound like total d0uche) but it's true.
$ony being too silent for so many time (i don't buy this charade). For me it's a bad omen.

And all of the *SINS* using $ony bible, converting a retail unit to a debug one with method used by them and gets filtered. I think it's the worst one you can commit to get *big daddy* angry.
Some heads will roll, im sure.
