1. First download the 3.55downgradepup PS3UPDAT.PUP

2. in the root of a flash drive create a folder called PS3
3. now inside the PS3 folder create a folder called UPDATE
4. put the PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.55dowgradepup) you just downloaded inside the UPDATE folder so it should look like this (x:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP)[where x is the letter for you flash drive]
5. plug your flash drive into your ps3 while it is off, and then turn your ps3 on
6. scroll left in xmb to "setting" then up to "system update"
7. install the update by selectiong "update via storage media" and selecting 3.55 PS3UPDAT.PUP wait while it updates..
8. now you will be on 3.55DEX
11. Next install itskamel'sDEXPUP NewDEXKamel.PUP

...rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP and install it the same way you did the previous PUP
12. download this version of multiman ver 04.04.03 BASE DEX

put it on the root of your flash drive and install it via "install package files" in xmb.
14. lastly run multiman and enjoy backing up your games and playing from HDD!

you have to be on 3.55 cfw to convert your cex (retail ps3) into a dex (debug ps3) the only way you would be able to use this if you had a hardware flasher to downgrade your ps3 to 3.55 to preform the conversion

Nice work @garrettcorn : what happened to the dex 2 cex pup from scene files last night? does it work?

For those running DEX higher then v3.55, you might also need this special 'downgrade' DEX pup to re-enable the feature on your converted DEX machine to go back to any lower version of firmware file. -- It only needs to be run once, and then you can install the normal 3.55 DEX PUP afterwards. Downgrade DEX PUP: --> 4.20 DEX Downgrader (8.83mb) via PS3SceneFiles

the 4.20 DEX Downgrader pup doesn't install, at least i couldn't get it to.. played around with the settings a little still had no luck, this method is super easy especially if you save your update files to hdd can go up to 4.20 in 1 update and back down to 3.55 in 2. about the dex 2 cex files i haven't tried them out yet forgot about them downloaded them earlier planning on trying them but haven't yet will do in a few hours am about to go to bed

Do you know if you set QA mode on 3.55, whether it is definitely still active on 4.xx DEX?

I know there is little point having it qa flagged now, but just out of interest, how could we find out?
