help with cfws...
hi guys.
as many ps3 users now, I flashed my ps3 and switched it to dex. I installed one of the many cfws to run multiman, but a bad surprise was waiting for me. in fact it is impossible to run the game from virtual APP_HOME/PS3_GAME, as the BDEMU feature is still not enabled on the current dex custom firmwares. the problem is that my bd drive is gone, and I should use an entire hdd to load a game with the dex bdemu feature and make the backups start from the bd icon on xmb. if I understand right, it is not possible to use virtual bd drive because syscall 36 is missing. then, i read about REBUG's LV2 LOADER. so I thought: is it possible to load kmeaw's lv2_kernel.self (which actually includes that syscall) to enable the APP_HOME feature? I'd like to try anyway, but i still can't decrypt and exctract CFW's CORE_OS_PACKAGE. can anyone tell me how to do that? P.S.: I have exeedy 3.55 CFW, which allows lv1 mapping and includes lv1 peek&poke, so it should be possible. |

BDEMU is not part of any FW, it's an installable pkg.

I think he means the Dex BDemu not the PKG one. I cannot remember what it is called. Try the guides.

Pretty sure he means the BDEMU for use with mm as he mentioned Syscall36.

actually johanuk is right. I know that BDEMU is an installable pkg, whose .bin file is extracted in ./BLES80608/USRDIR. But it does not work on DEX firmwares, as it is impossible to start any game from /APP_HOME/PS3_GAME icon on XMB.
I was wondering if it was possible to make it work loading kmeaw's lv2_kernel.self thanks to rebug's tool LV2_Loader. The DEX CFW I'm using know has peek&poke enabled and also full memory mapping, so it should be possible. The only problem is that every time I try to extract and decrypt any CFW CoreOS, I get useless files (their names contain invalid chars). I pupunpack the CFW, then extract the "update_files.tar" archive to get the CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg; then I run fwpkg to decrypt it and finally cosunpkg on the decrypted package. But it does not work. P.S.1: the original dimension of the CORE_OS_PACKAGE of a 3.55 CFW is usually 5091KB, and once decrypted it's 5090KB, against the 7168KB of an OFW decrypted one. P.S.2: unselfing one of the eboots I use on my DEX, I noticed that all the paths leading to game USRDIR start from the blue-ray device. So I have many "/dev_bdvd/PS3_GAME/USRDIR". What if a modify the .elf file with an hex editor replacing "dev_bdvd" with "app_home"?! Last edited by rotaga; 08-11-2012 at 12:21 PM. |

BDEMU does work on DEX, I have a ps3 on DEX myself (itskamel pup) and can use it fine.
Seems to me that your issue is your dead BD drive. If so, I can't help with you with that, sorry. |

But can you start games without any BDisc (in discless mode)?!
My issue is that games do not boot from /APP_HOME/... icon on xmb. I have to use an external HDD to mount images through Ps3Gen... |
