The PS4's 4K Resolution is Irrelevant
The PlayStation 4 is rumored to support a 4K resolution that no PlayStation 4 game will take full advantage of. I am pretty sure that any games released supporting the resolution won't be played by anyone and will run at very low borderline unplayable frame rates. Of course I'm basing my assumptions off of the PlayStation 3's experience with 1080P. I can only think of one game that runs at 1080P which is WipEout HD and I'm willing to bet that less than 500 people regularly played this game online. How am I supposed to believe that PlayStation 4 games won't bear the same exact issues?
I bet most PS4 games will run at 720P locked at 30 FPS and if we're lucky we'll get a 1080P game somewhere in the mix, so just why the f*ck does this machine support a 4K resolution? Irrelevant! |

I suspect they put in stuff like this so that later they can manufacture televisions that have equivalent displays that they can sale.

Wipeout HD isn't always rendered at 1080p. It has a dynamic frame buffer and can render in real-time as low as 1280x1080 to prevent frames being dropped to maintain a constant 60 frames per second.

If that game is running on the PS3 it is most likely running at a sub-HD resolution and I'm willing to bet the gameplay you saw was PC gameplay.
I doubt its a PS4 title but who knows. I am very sure its not running 4K. |

Things people do to exceed the capabilities of something, but if no one does it how do we learn, understand the flaws, and make it reality.

@Annelies
, we do not know of how powerful the PS4's specs are. Also 4k resolution means games can run at sub 4k, but higher than 1080p.
Why speculate when we do not even know what hardware it runs on?
