/... not informed before saying "Now, before PC and Xbox 360 cry that they’re getting the short end of the stick,"
One word for you guys.. TEXMOD . for years now we been able to change, create, and modified the textures of our games... pretty much any game for PC with TEXMOD.
Now i'm sure if they release downloadable content to install textures, you can decompress them, create your owns (with ...?? keys??, sign them back again) and compress them, and finally install them on your own PS3 with your own custom textures.
... That is a good idea! :P

By the way.. Thumbs up for the Boobies! @hellsing9

@matury good idea but taking it to reality on console world..it's somekind *not so possible* so to speak. On PC you can do what the heck you want.

Well not so much as *not so possible*, with time and time and time... and alot of dedication, you can make it happen only for 3.55 of course.
In theory..: make a Eboot for 3.55
copy game to hdd
extract game onto pc (with HDD emu)
inspect individual files
inspect hex,hash,tables for values
inspect for locks on files
(with expensive PC software) create custom texture
loaded up in compiled file with or without locks
put it back to your PS3 hdd
play game with custom texture...

Now all that with a team of three... could take months
but there's the idea

Installing game data or entire games to the HDD is a great idea and one CFW users have grown accustomed to, but I think the larger picture painted here is the fact that Sony Playstation 3's BD-ROM laser assemblies are like most of their other hardware - complete junk.

I have a Sega CD from 1992 - that's 20 years ago and it's laser works fine and so does a portable Audio CD player I purchased before the Sega CD.

It's one thing for end users to acknowledge that Sony's hardware has a high failure rate, but it's another thing to see a developer of a top notch game admit that the PS3's BD-ROM lasers are junk to boot.

Consoles on the 90's were created to last longer. (You posted proof enough of it).
Consoles starting on year 2k started to look/feel cheap. That's one reason i think this pack of textures is not to mess up with BR drive of 4k series, hence 4k it's cheaper than slim ones and probably they don't want to risk for one game getting in trouble so fast with their new mini-console.

Sony never gave us the chance like Microsoft gave to their users to install most of our legit games on their HDD'S.
My kudos for Xb0x360 on this one at least they gave you an option to not to mess up so fast your drive lense.

Hardly news...
You can install any game fully, bar 1 or 2 exceptions to an Xbox 360 and have been able to for the past few years.

Not quite sure what the person commenting from the studio is prattling on about, installing textures you would think, would be standard procedure for a game like this?

...Not really, it's just consoles from then started using much more power, having more and faster moving parts, die shrinks that were on the bleeding edge of technology at release and so on.

Consoles until the used off the shelf chips like the Z80 in the mega drive used for sound and the motorola 68000 for main CPU, that's two of the most reliable and mass produced chips ever made and had been in production for well over 10 years at release. There was no pressure to make shrinks to die sizes, no pressure to cram as much technology as possible into a small case. No need for heatsinks, fans or any rubbish like that.

It's not really a surprise that stuff became less reliable generally speaking.

@jennys

Mega CD had a 2x CD-ROM drive, it generally just loaded a game of a few KB from the CD-ROM in terms of code, the rest was just either red book audio or FMV - both of which require (practically) no seeking and minimal stress to laser - 1x reading speed - in a continuous, linear direction

@baargle For a game like this..it's fishy. COD series being using the same engine for ages, meanwhile BF3 requiered an HD pack of textures to be installed on consoles and PC. (And i noticed the difference as on my PS3 and on my RIG)

I doubt is an *engine* problem and hardly doubt that they have to add some extra eye candy.

I don't buy that part *The pack will be installed on PS3 systems to avoid too much use of BR drive...*

A) Or just some lame allebi from start, to *justify* something (bugs) even if it will suck like any COD series.
B) Or they don't know HOW well will perform in 4K models since release date of this game is on 2013 and they have to get they asses covered somehow.
