Well, I have that metal shield.
i havent done any xbox's but thye used the thin shild? dont ask me.
if you have a phat ps3 then on the bdvd ther is a ground tag screwed under the bdvd on the right. i use that file'd down to make it thinner.

look around the cpu and you will see a gap in the sealent. try to slide the tool into this (it wont at first) once you have it filed down thin enough to slide into this area you need to thin it down a bit more so it wont catch |& scratch the cpu's board.

i hope you dont try this but as i said if i dont explain how to do it propperly you will only find the wrong info and screw it up more.

Well, this is what I am getting after removing IHS and applying new thermal compound, the fan does not fire up now.

do you get a picture on the tv?
if not then now you can try reflowing as the gpu has cracked the solder while you were prising the ihs.

or as i hope you havent but i fear you have damaged the cpu while cutting the ihs off.

but try reflowing.

also just a thought but you have plugged the fan back in? and the hdd was plugged in? or it wont boot

i am having difficulty now as i dont have the ps3 here with me.
