Failed e3 flasher attempt
Greetings folks, I've been reading around quite a lot and have pretty much concluded that I have the YLOD but I wanted to be certain by asking your opinion.
Here's what happened: Bought a used ps3 slim (Model# CECH 2001A) (worked well, a bit dirty but I cleaned it) Bought a E3 NOR Flasher, had a whole lot of fun figuring out exactly which way I needed to put the clip onto the samsung chip. Especially considering the rigging of pressure (pennies) that had to be applied. In this process I removed and replaced the heat sink's four times. I went ahead and cleaned all the old thermal paste of and added new on the last go around (making sure not to use too much). Everything was going smooth this time. I was working through the process of downgrading from 4.1 to 3.55 using the latest files from the e3 site. I was only able to successfully backup the current bios. When I got to the point of unlocking the bios it made it through two blue LED indicators before going into a flashing mode of 10001111. I found that very odd considering I didn't think I was writing anything but since it was unlocking it could very well be. At this point the system was running fine although it seemed a little warm. I went ahead and powered it down and unplugged it for a few minutes. When I plugged it back in and powered it on it gave me the YLOD behavior. Powers on fine, three short beeps and then it powers off with a flashing red light. I went ahead and did the YLOD heat gun fix since it felt warm but I haven't re-thermal compounded the chips and put it all back together. Now that I'm thinking about it and considering the fun I had figuring out that the ribbon/clip (E3) is a bit of a pain to get seated properly I might have just corrupted the bios. Do you think this is the case? (ultimately I'll find out if was the crappy solder problem in a few hours). QUESTION: Could it be a bad flash? Last edited by darth zuasive; 07-12-2012 at 12:39 PM. Reason: Good lord man proofread your crap! |

Well then. Looks like it might be a failed unlock at least as I just discovered a small tear in my e3 flasher clip ribbon. Yay. Reflow failed as well so I'm guessing it's dead. Looks like I have parts.
Anyone want to sell an e3 nor flasher clip? |

Check there Resellers here most of them will sell spare clips. If you can't find a good one in the US I have ordered from www.diy-buy.com and they were very good.
I'm in the UK but I see no reason why their services to the US wouldn't be good as well. |

Hey man to try and fix your ps3 if you have it where when you turn it on after about3-5 seconds it beeps 3 times and then the red light flashed repeatedly then to fix it u need to reflash your ps3 bios to your ps3 and also when u replace the clip try and use layered peices of cardboard instead of penny's
And also send me your bios so I can check if they will work properly or just further damage your nor chip |

If it won't stay powered on, then you need to solder a wire from the sbe on the clips ribbon, to the nor tristate on the ps3 motherboard. If the ribbon is messed up, then obviously you need to replace before soldering it to your board. Then there is a tut to unbricking with e3 flasher. First step would be to get valid bios dump. Upload the bios dump you already have and let someone check it or check it yourself if you know how. The clip may be fine.
