Firmware Update Data Corrupted?

Hey guys,

I recently had a friend give me a PS3 that was not working. I turned it on and it was trying to resume a cancelled update or something. I read a few posts and tried a different hard drive. I put the new one in and it asked to format and install firmware 3.70 or higher, before I formatted I swapped out the hard drives so that it would format the old one. It reached 99% formatting and stopped. I assumed that the hard drive was bad. So I put the new one back in and went through the whole formatting process, it completed and proceeded to install firmware step after a reboot. The problem is that when it checks the firmware after the reboot it says that it is corrupted. I have tried downloading the latest firmware update (4.11) four times on two different computers and four different flash drives and I still get the same error every time, sometimes it even comes before the reboot.

I'm starting to think that it has something to do with the firmware on the nor chip (3.70 I'm assuming) and the firmware I'm trying to install or something to do with the cancelled update that I had to deal with in the first place. If you have no other suggestions, could someone link me to the 3.70 firmware update? I want to try installing that and see what happens.

Thanks,

-JC

From where you downloaded 4.11 OFW? @JustChillin1414 I suggest that you download this one = 4.11 OFW
The one you requested:
3.70 OFW
Seems that you are on a loop, report back.
Doubt that swap HDD will do any better.

I've been downloading it from the official website... I'll try that link though, thanks.

I've tried both 3.70 and 4.11 and they both give the corrupted error. No matter what firmware I throw at it and what external/flash drive I use it gives me the same error. At this point I'm thinking it's the PS3. I've never had this problem before, when I was using CFW and otherwise, updating through USB never gave me any problems.

Let me know what you think,

-JC

I don't have a flasher, though I may buy one to fix this PS3 and perhaps downgrade to 3.55 to run homebrew again. Which one would you recommend that is solderless?

I don't think it needs a reflow, I think it was a screw up on the part of the previous owner.

Sorry to bump this thread.. but I'm thinking of getting an E3 flasher finally. Will the flasher allow me to fix this ps3 and if so, what guide should I follow? I'd like to get it on 3.55.

just use plain downgrader guide from ps3devwiki.

install E3
dump flash
upload it to mediafire and join IRC ef.net #ps3downgrade and we will take a look

I'm just unsure whether to spend the $100 that may or may not fix the problem. Where would you recommend me to buy it in North America (Canada to be exact)?
