Being Struck by Lightning - Twice

I've always loved to climb large objects be in the super tree when I was 5 or Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina when I was 12. My family and I loved climbing this particular Mountain due to it's magnificent view, random fresh water springs (to go skinny dipping in) and varied plant and animal life.

One particular time when I as 12 we started the climb and took the advanced trail which leads us over the three peaks which form the shape of the grandfather's upper face. Around 4 hours into the hike my father (who is a pilot) noticed a cloud forming and said that it's not good.

We ran into three very attractive men who were also climbing. As they passed my father warned them to go down after the second peak as that storm will be coming. They didn't listen.

Whilst ascending the second peak the cloud engulfed us and then let loose it's water and lightning. We were inside the thunderstorm! Lighting was coming from all directions and the rain was crazy! We immediately took shelter under a large rock.

The first time I was indirectly struck by lightening my Father, Sister, Brother and my Father's friend along with his Daughter and I were all huddled under that rock whilst inside the thunderstorm (not below it, inside it!) on top of Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. I was happening to be sitting in a stream of water when I suddenly felt really "fuzzy" and then passed out. When I came two my senses were all messed up. Lightning had struck the rock and passed through the water and literally shocked my ass.

The rock was not a safe spot so we, as fast as possible, made it down the second peak whilst be hit by rocks, sliding down muddy areas and wading through waste deep water.

When we arrived at the Visitor Center at the top of the Mountain we all had hypothermia and luckily a film crew filming a Lexus (car) commercial had blankets and hot chocolate. We survived.

The three guys who didn't head my father's warning weren't so lucky. They were all "directly" struck by lightening suffering from burns. One fell off the third peak and the other two ran back down. The one who fell died. [this according to the TV News later that night]

The second time I was talking on a corded telephone while my sister and her friend were playing the Super Nintendo video gaming system which used corded controllers. My sister also had our cat on her lap under the controller. Lightening struck the transformer outside and the result literately threw me a few feet in the air while my Sister and her friend suffered minor electronic shock from the Super NES controllers. Most of the electronics in the house were fried due to the strike.

Both were indirect; here is happens when you get the full "force".

Now, here is the crazy part. I can now "sense" electronic fields. If I'm under *laughs* a thunderstorm I can predict cloud to ground strikes very accurately. I can also feel the electronic field that surrounds each human or if strong enough objects. However, it has left me with "super" senses were even the slightest sound, vibration, etc ... feels like a train-wreck in progress. Thankfully due to medication I can "dull" my senses, but even taking them I am still a pretty good lightning detector without the normal signs (fuzzy feeling, every hair in your body standing up) - if that happens run like a *****!

Its a common thing for people who were hit by lightning, develop memory problems, sleep and lack of concentration. Theoretically lightning can affect any area of the nervous system.

But I really do not believe that is a "sixth sense", this can be something psychosomatic or a sensitization to the "critical limit of approximation" (ask someone to get too close to a stranger and you will see a uncomfortable person without knowing why - the critical distance is usually the limit of the persons - or animal - attack, an innate behavior).

Sure, I'm just theorizing because I have trouble believing in something without scientific basis. What I mean: I think you feel something, but I do not think you can feel the electric/electronic field of the people because the intensity is too small to be felt by people.

But if you really can feel, congratulations: you have the sensory capacity of a shark, with the difference that you do not spent millions of years evolving structures like ampullae of lorenzini to have this ability

Thanks for the good read, very well written.

That's why they said that when an electrical storm is in your area, you have to avoid using cellphones, facebook and trees.

Chance that you get *electrified* twice in open area = bad luck.

@jennys how old are you now then? (given you mention the ages at which you were seduced/struck/hit by lightning).. And shid, I drove on a motorbike this morning, while it was lightning Alas, had to go to work, whether wanting to or not.

@LoboGuara - I'm super-sensitive to electricity and can without any other sense detect a person or large animal nearby (I'd say around 10 ft) without any other sort of clues (sight, sound, etc ...). It is a very close proximity, but what happens is I can feel that fuzzy feeling. I don't think it's some kind of new sensory ability, but simply the fact I'm prone to feel "fuzzy" around electronics. I hate Microwaves! I must put my food in and walk away.

@DEFAULTDNB - It hardly cracks the surface.

@hellsing9 - Where I grew up lightning strikes were very common and almost every afternoon we killed the circuit breakers and stayed inside for the storms to pass. I have fond memories of trying to play trivial pursuit, but as it was too complicated we (my siblings and I) made up are own rules. This is when children played outdoors and the Internet did not exist.

@oPolo - Loco Polo, I am [censored] years old.

I think you missed the subtlety of the comment @DEFAULTDNB made...

Which also explains a lot.

That does explain a lot, as you do have an "electrifying" personality
