I borrowed this PS from a friend and it came with 3.41 and a matrix PS3 dongle, I tried updating to 3.55 OFW through recovery mode but it says 3.56 or later is required. Trouble is the website for this dongle no longer works, so i can't program it to downgrade....

I googled for hours and everytime i come across something i get dead links

I intend on installing kmeaw's 3.55 but first i need to downgrade to 3.20 (minimum firmware), question is do I need to buy another downgrade dongle or is there some alternative (free) workaround that doesn't require downgrading at all?

okay your title says one thing and your text says another. so if im getting this right your on 3.56 and not 3.41. if that is the case you will need a hardware flasher.

that's why it's frustrating, when I start the console without the dongle, system information claims i'm on 3.41

can u use back up manager and other homebrew on the ps3 right now . do u have install packages

yes I do, only when I start the console with the dongle and do the whole "power the eject" trick

did you try to flash 3.55 ofw in the recovery or xmb without the dongle in? also is there a game in the drive? eject it if there is and try the 3.55 ofw.

you need to downgrade to 3.21 then update to 3.41 ofw then 3.55 ofw , thats if your ps3 can go down to 3.21

with the dongle removed, i ejected the game and tried again
still gives me "no applicable update data insert media with 3.56 or higher" in recovery

using XMB gives me data corrupted error

i used minverchk and it can go down to 3.20
problem is how will i downgrade when the stupid dongle's website doesn't work and i can't reprogram the dongle to downgrade mode?
