How To Install The Easy To Use GUI Boot Loader Petitboot
If any of you want to try it:
What you need: petitboot 1) Download it from above to your destop. 2) Create a folder anywhere on your Desktop like this; /PS3/otheros (If you don't know how to do it just create a folder named PS3 and inside it make another folder called otheros). 2 1/2) If you want to do it on a linux system you can open a terminal and type in: Code:
mkdir -p /home/username/Desktop/PS3/otheros 4) Next move that folder into a mass storage device or burn it to a CD and plug it in the PS3. 5) Go to Settings-->System Settings-->Install Other OS, and then it should be detected on the mass storage device or CD. 6) Select the Other OS as the Default OS. 7) There you go you should see a GUI with a little HDD icon on the left after you choose the Other OS as the default. Click on it and then click on your linux partition. I like it because you get your video options at the bottom plus you can return to the Game OS without typing anything in. Voila. |

Yea it is the same as yaboot except you have a friendlier graphical UI. The DVD will appear on the left and when you click on it it will give you your boot options.

Wait petitboot isn't on the YDL install DVD. And anyways which version did you burn because the install ISO of YDL is usually bigger than the 700MB on offered on a CD-R.
I'll pop in my install DVD and see if I get the same thing as you. Edit: for some freaking reason everytime I put the PS3 folder into my mass storage device it de-capitalizes the letters "ps". Damn I'll try and get that fixed and tested out for you. Last edited by uncholowapo; 06-16-2008 at 02:37 PM. |

Yea. That is what I did with YDL. Also just a little note: Ubuntu is very different in the way that they install and create their packages. They use a system called APT, which originally came from Debian. Ubuntu is a derivative of Debian.
YDL is a derivative of Fedora and with the release of YDL 6, CentOS which is basically the free version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It uses RHEL's RPM and YUM system. So don't expect things to work the same on both distros. |
