Firmware 3.00 update killed my first ps3, no real complaints though as Sony sent me a replacement within 2 days and with no arguments meaning they are totally aware it happens.

There's also reports of users on GameFaqs/YouTube/etc having their PS3's bricked with the new 4.25 OFW and $ony is doing nothing to help them out of this.

Fat, 160GB, custom HDD, wireless connection, updated from 4.20.
Slim, 160GB, default HDD, wireless connection, updated from 4.21.

No problems here at all...
Games work perfectly, the system doesnt have any problem, etc...

By the way, using the rival's console (Xbox 360) was totally irrelevant and I was just talking (I'm PlayerUMD) about $ony's broken 4.25 OFW. I am not keeping quiet from them just because they're on the official PlayStation 3 forums, that was before, not now.

I wrote these on the boards on Sony US Playstation site.

"Being a PS+ Member, I added in a 650GB hard drive into my PS3. I was on the last update that came out. I tried to do the update by downloading to my PS3. But, EVERY TIME it updates, it goes to 99% and then tells me there is an error and to restart the system.

Hard drive size is 650GB which I put in and formatted with the PS3 system
I have a wireless connection
I tried to upgrade from the last firmware out.

A few days later, I formatted my 650GB HDD and put it back into the PS3. It asked me for an update 4.21 or higher, so luckily the new update did NOT update my system.*

So, I still had the 4.21 update on my SD USB Reader and formatted my HDD again. It was a success!*

So, my PS3 is alive again running 4.21.*

I tried to log on to PSN so I can start putting my games back on my system. Wouldn't you know it? It told me I had to do a system update. Which I will NOT until I hear that Sony fixed this problem and it will not brick my PS3.

I BETTER get comped for the time I'm missing using my PS+ account because Sony is too negligent to actually TEST the friggin' firmware update before releasing them onto an unsuspecting public.

So, Since Sony won't get off of their asses and do any testing and just still deny everything presented to them, I'll take matters into my own hands.

Did anyone here that was bricked or affected any way by the update, use the PC download to and external drive(i.e. A USB thumb drive or USB SD Card reader) to update rather than download it from PSN?

I have an idea that maybe the one on PSN is corrupted and the one on the PC is not. But, I want to see if that is indeed the case...."

I really do have that theory. But still, all this coverage and especially FIFTEEN PAGES ON THEIR OWN SITE ABOUT THIS? And still no acknowledgement or fix?

The type of lag/glitches you mention on COD, has happened to the Hoch, way before the 4.25 came out (silly old Treyarch/Infinity ward) since COD 4.

The Hoch has an old xCECHEx PS version and the 4.25 has been fine as of yet (10 minutes later the PS is on fire).

Also the Hoch agrees that these flawed OFW's could make, for a good CFW pal to get some company. ;-)

Datardly overall, these flaws could be due to a certain company, focusing intentions on a new hardware. (cough PS4 cough anyone )
