Yes, something changed after 3.56.
There are still checks when the firmware installs, just not like downgrading from 3.56 or higher.

Like if you don't have a blu ray logic board married to the mobo, you would have to use a nobd firmware.
It's still going to do the normal checks, like hdd, blu ray, wifi/bluetooth, etc...
So when you do the FSM install of firmware, if it does not install it will tell us why in the log file.

Really you don't have to downgrade, you should be able to reinstall the same firmware. Just don't update in FSM.

Listen to @playerkp420 but IMO always do a QA Flag when after being in FSM so you can make sure it doesn't brick

weirdest stuff going on. I am trying to use my e3 card reader to throw it into fsm, but it just boots up normal. So I thought I would try to reinstall the firmware it is on from the xmb, but it keeps saying no applicable data found? I also tried to use minverchecker yesterday 2 times, and both times it said installing update data and then it would complete to 100 and then just go back to the menu? Never showed me the min version. I am lost now. Should i try to reformat or install a different hard drive? Dont want to create a worse update loop, because technically speaking it isnt in an update loop, it just wont update. Any ideas?

@Bigbones87
@playerkp420

dont mean to butt in as you have been working hard on this over the last few days.

but i dont think the fsm was introduced untill later firmware (i am unsure exactly when but i'm sure it was after 2.00f/w)

i know player could access it but i think this is due to him downgrading so the file system part that has the fsm isn't wrote over with early verson firmware

i could be compleatly wrong but i do remember reading it somewhere. i think it was when i got side tracked researching on the wiki?

anyway try formating the hdd in a pc then the ps3
then fully format your usb stick then try installing the same f/w you allready have on the ps3.

@baileyscream you don't think this would create a real update loop, kinda like the infamous 3.56 bug where if you didn't have the original hard drive and stuff you where screwed? If not I will try this, because fsm is definitely not working for me and I haven't ever had an issue with it before on any of the other consoles I've messed with. Thanks everyone for all the help. Viva la HAX.

i thought the 3.56 bug was if you installed a larger hdd like a 500gb that then freaked the f/w out

if this bug was in another f/w then it would be well known.

personaly this would be my next step at fault elimination on any firmware

I gave it a shot. I formatted the hard drive to NTFS and then used a totally different flash drive that i formatted to fat 32 and put the 1.94 ofw on there. It still keeps saying no applicable data found. This console may be junk, because I cant seem to get it to update and i cant get into fsm and there is no recovery mode.

in the setting menu there is restore ps3 system, reset settings, install other os. Would any of these be any use to me?

hmmm maybe try the next firmware up now.

....................................................
you could try the restore option.

actually you said the min firmware checker went to 100%?
is the file structure the same? PS3 folder UPDAT folder?
any spelling mistakes on the folder or the update its self?

strange that the min firmware checker reached 100% but not the genuine f/w

@baileyscream I know right? It was giving me the same error for the minverchecker but I just keep trying it and eventually it took and acted like it was updating for real. It never showed me the error with the lowest firmware? Crazy. I have the file in PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP I checked it like 5 times. Lol. Formatted to fat 32 2 USB drives that have never gave me a problem. I tried to update to 3.55 before I opened this thread and it gave me the error in the first 10% of the update, which is why me and playerkp420 thought it may be a bad flash and needs to use fsm to downgrade rewriting the the flash. I'm clueless. I will try to use the next firmware up and see how it goes. Then maybe the restore PS3 system option? Would the install other OS help me at all, like could I maybe do a round about way using Linux or something?
