could be your logic board thats broken too . try another muitiman and make sure its the full version . also try a homebrew game and try to boot it . to see if thats goes to black screen too .

If the logic board is busted you wont be able to load any games / homebrew etc. All tho its possible to make a BDB CFW with cfwbuilder. BDB = BluRay Disk Bypass. If you add the BDB option it wont check if you have any bluray logic board etc.

install a BDB CFW isnt go make any diffence to what he on now also have you thought that maybe, as he just brought the ps3 with cfw on it . it could of been downgrade by the old owner and not dehashed propley . if that was the case you would of just bricked his ps3 if he listen to u . maybe he hasnt installed the full version of muitman and thats why its giving him a black screen . thats why i said to install the full version and also try a homebrew games . to see if the logic bored is the problem

I might be missing something here but what has the blu ray drive logic board got to do with booting mutiman or any PSN style app?

u would need to buy a new logic board and look up about how to remarry a logic board. u could check and see if your logic board is connect correctly to the ps3 mother board . as a loose cable could cause black screen
