PS3 Retail Display model?

I purchased a 60 GB CECHE01 PS3 from Amazon, upon its arrival yesterday I noticed on the side a shiny sticker that say "Console modified for retail display"

The console was on factory OFW 3.41. I tested the console with all types of media PS1,PS2,PS3 and DVD all which ran flawlessly. I then ran a Blu-ray movie and I was prompted with a message that said "Playback of BD's is prohibited on this console contact technical support for assistance"

I did some research and found out that when a console has been downgraded that it can "break bd playback" so I checked the warranty sticker on the bottom which was intact, and all rubber feet are fastened securely.

My question is has there been any accounts of these retail display models and them not playing BD's and what could possibly be modified for retail display?
I'm very intrigued by this and trying also to find a solution to this BD playback. Currently the console is on 3.55 REBUG but the BD playback issue was present before the CFW installation.

It sounds like you have a shop/demo/kiosk ps3.

How did you install rebug on it? Please explain in detail.

Exclamation

That's what I thought, it was obvious that with the sticker and strange power cable that this was indeed some kind of a demo unit.
I also forgot to mention that on the bottom was some kind of thick sticky residue, I scrubbed it off thinking that the previous owner may had a sticker on it.

I installed 3.55 OFW normally through update via storage device. I then went to recovery mode and installed 3.55 REBUG with no issues.
The only problem I'm having is BD playback and cannot seem to find a solution.

My biggest question is if this is indeed a demo unit, what modification where made?

So you never needed to use an unlock code with it?

If that is correct then it was already converted from shop to retail.

If you installed 3.55 OFW normally through update via storage device then I would suggest you remarry the blu-ray drive, and follow all directions to the letter. This will allow blu-ray movie playback, but alot of new blu-ray movies don't work on 3.55 just so you know.
