Well this just goes to show that Sony is a bunch of legal/courtroom bullies. Never in a thousand years is the Bridgestone **** going to stick. You can't patent a person. They can patent Kevin Butler since he is fictional, but they can't patent the actor that plays him. I saw the commercial and never once did I see him say he was Kevin Butler.
Now on the other hand if "Kevin Butler" was under contract, and he is in violation of that contract, then suing him would be fair game, but suing Bridgestone over who they employ will not stand up in court. I could see Sony's argument now. "They used an actor which we also use." Get real. Bridgestone was nice enough to edit the commercial. Also I believe the US legal system is getting tired of listening to Sony cry.

I just facepalmed my nose through my brain.
The man is an actor. An actor Sony has not used at all this year if I'm correct. No doubt this actor lives in LA. LA is a sodding expensive. So he's got bills to pay. Sony are quickly becoming the worst laughing stock in gaming. If I didn't already DESPISE Microsoft for turning gaming into a ****ing joke and ruining my favourite developer (RIP rareware) I'd be questioning my ownership of their products. They really have lost touch with reality. Playstation and PS2 had no competition. They sauntered in, dominated gaming, and kept that crown for the best part of ten years. The only company who ignore their own franchises in a worse way are sega (wonderboy, alex kidd etc) I mean, I consider that allstars battle thing a joke. A bad ripoff. Why are they doing it when they could do a new Medievil, Legend of Dragoon, or Alundra game??? Hell.. a new ape escape platformer would be fab too  Journey is the only thing I've really been blown away by that's PS exclusive lately  I know there's a few things to come, and plenty of titles that everyone else is excited about, but I'm a platformers and rpgs kinda dude. But yeah, back to the issue. I really went off topic there. Sony Suing bridgestone is akin to the whole Apple - Samsung ****fest. I hate lawsuits. seriously. Sony, get your head out your ass and make some friggin games. Read that. GAMES. Not interactive movies or stupid action gorefests. I wanna collect stuff and have fun. Obviously he can't go trying to portray the Kevin Butler character for commercial gain assuming that Sony does own that likeness and familiarity of that character... Who knows though if that is the situation, seems kinda dodgy area. |
